DESCRIPTION
To see it, is to
believe it!
Total privacy, park like setting, custom everything!... on 10 acres with
a pond, two year-round brooks, mountain views, trails, a great yard and
gardens with lots of perennials and fruit trees.
We are the artists/designers and only owners.
We've built our home and studio/guest house with total attention to detail. It has taken us many years
to build the property to this level of artistry... passive solar design with lots
of windows, open to the sun and views. We wanted to create a beautiful,
functional, natural home. It has truly been a labor of love. Some of the best
crafts people in the business have helped create this property, adding that
unique feeling you can only get in a hand crafted space.
The home is a reclaimed antique hand hewn timber frame with attached
round silo and slate roof (3,200 square feet). The massive stone fireplace, like so
many other things on the property, isn't JUST a fireplace.... it's actually a
Finnish style masonry heater with a large heated stone slab bench (GREAT
for warming up after skiing), mainewoodheat.com. It's a see through design, so you can sit by the
fire on either side and it also includes a traditional brick
bake oven.
The kitchen is a joy to use... well designed, ergonomic and hand crafted.
The cabinets were made by a woodworker from local butternut, bird's eye
maple and curly maple. They're extra deep for great storage and include a
curved baking center, bow front hutch and large island with bar seating. The
counter tops are granite and slate. The window over the slate sink is framed
with hand carved leaves by a local furniture maker. Herbeau faucets (from
France with a lifetime warranty), an additional copper sink and bronze tiles
are some of the other details in the kitchen.
The first floor bath has hand made decorative tiles surrounding the tub,
shower and counter top, plastered walls and a large farm sink perched on
elaborately carved piano legs, also with Herbeau faucets. An Asko washer
and dryer are included for a convenient laundry area.
Also on the first floor, is a versatile space which could be a home office or
master bedroom suite. It includes birch bark walls, lots of windows and French
doors, and its own private porch/balcony with views of the pond and
mountains beyond.
Upstairs, the loft bedroom is a cozy spot with a built in bed and a great
child's play space. The master bedroom has high ceilings with diamond
windows looking over the pond with an antique deer stag chandelier and
matching sconces. The master bath is filled with light. The views are
expansive with no house in site. Sit in the whirlpool and watch the sunset or
check out the stars through the skylights. The shower is granite with a rain
bar, body sprays and clear glass door, so you don't miss the views. Off the
master bath is a versatile room... a nursery/bedroom, library room, or
exercise area. An inspirational space, round with 360 degree views and a
hand carved timber frame octagon ceiling, up lighted for ambiance.
With decks and porches on
three sides of the home, there's an outside spot for every season and weather condition. In the summer, the deck off the
kitchen is a great place to barbeque and sit in the shade, since the deck is
literally built around maple trees. You can relax under their branches
overlooking the pond. In the spring, the south deck is perfect for soaking up
the sun to warm your bones! The west porch is a great place to watch the
sunset or listen to the rain for a quiet evening.
The studio/guest house
(2,300 square feet) is a wonderful, versatile space with reclaimed hardwood floors, full walk out basement, a loft, porch and radiant
heat. High speed internet is available. It makes for a great commute to 'the
office'! It was created with large diameter hand scribed logs with a hand
carved entry door and side lights.... a beautiful building with a great feel to
the spaces, for work or play.
It took us a long time to find the property, where we could create a quiet
retreat, with no other house in site, yet convenient to so much. With a large
private yard and woods to explore, it's a place to take your time and soak it
all in. Smell the apple and plum tree blossoms, sit by the pond, feed the
trout, lie in the hammock, cut some peonies, lilacs or lupines for a vase on
the table, pick fresh raspberries, explore the trails, meandering down the
brooks. It's a private quiet place to relax, yet just
minutes to Brant Lake or Schroon Lake or Pharaoh
Wilderness Area hiking and cross country skiing. It's only
30 minutes to Gore Mountain skiing and 45 minutes to
Saratoga race track and boutique shopping. And it's just
over an hour to Lake Placid or Vermont villages. By being
convenient to I-87, it makes traveling to further
destinations like New York City or Montreal easy as well.
It's a special place you truly have to see. Since there
isn't room to list all of the custom details here, please
call or email for more photos or information on our
property.
