original guesthouses of the Otis family’s Beech Hill
Great Camp built in the late 1920s, Camp Barkeater on
Osgood Pond is a tranquil lakeside retreat for getting
away from busy lives. This is a perfect setting for a
romantic couple or small family wishing to be on a
quiet pond where you can fish and swim off the end of
your own dock. Camp Barkeater is an old-fashioned
"housekeeping" rental for those who wish to
be on their own in the true Adirondack
"camp" tradition while still enjoying some
modern comforts.
The
feeling of the camp is airy and open. The lake view
can be enjoyed while eating breakfast on the screened
porch or preparing meals in a cathedral-ceilinged and
fully equipped kitchen. Have an afternoon picnic by
the lake and relax and read in oversized Adirondack
chairs near the water’s edge. At night, with a fire
burning in the cobblestone fireplace, listen to the
loons calling and enjoy a wide selection of books
before retiring in an antique brass bed.
Historic Osgood Pond located near
the St. Regis Canoe Area is a soft-bottomed and
shallow pond ideal for swimming. You’ll have easy
access by water into Jones Pond, Church Pond and the
Osgood River. Adventure in a canoe or catch some
warm-water fish (northern pike, large & small
mouth bass, perch, sunfish and bullhead.) Walk the
varied trails and visit the butterfly house at the
Adirondack Visitors Center (VIC) just across the road.
Hike nearby St. Regis, Jenkins or Azure Mountains.
Visit White Pine Camp on Osgood Pond - the summer
White House of President Coolidge. It’s everything
you’ll need for a memorable Adirondack vacation.
