DESCRIPTION
Location
Welcome to AuSable Camp, our vacation home in the Adirondacks.
AuSable Camp is a sunny, cozy two bedroom cottage on a 12-acre property facing
Bassett, Wainwright, Rattlesnake, and Ebenezer Mountains.
We enjoy 1,500 feet of river frontage on the East
Branch of the AuSable River, 300 feet from the house.
We share our 12 acres of woods and fields with deer,
foxes, otters, beavers, and wild birds. We are located
in the town of Jay, NY.
AuSable Camp has panoramic doors and windows on all sides, with stunning
sunset views in all seasons. Amenities include a wraparound porch and an outdoor grill for
Summer
dining; a well-equipped kitchen with central island, dishwasher, microwave;
washer and dryer; a
fireplace in the living-room; a king-size bed with panoramic view in the master
bedroom; two twin size trundle beds in the loft bedroom; cedar
paneling in the bathroom (see more photos on website mentioned below).
At AuSable
Camp, life is secluded, peaceful and yet close to many
famous Adirondack attractions such as the Jay Rapids,
High Falls Gorge, Santa's Workshop, AuSable Chasm,
Whiteface Mountain, Mount Van Hoevenberg, Adirondack
Mountain Club, the 46 High Peaks, and the Olympic
Village of Lake Placid.
Activities
In the Summer, alpine ski trails give way to rugged mountain bike
paths. Frozen lakes and rivers become an exciting network of canoe and kayak
waterways. Backcountry ski trails transform into fascinating day hikes.
With over
1,500 lakes and ponds, hundreds of miles of canoe routes, 46 major
peaks over the 4,000 feet elevation mark and over 2,000 miles of hiking and hiking
trails, the Adirondack Park is, quite literally, a 6 million acre playground and
sports paradise.
Right at AuSable Camp, there is fishing, swimming, tubing, canoeing, kayaking, hiking,
cross country skiing, snowshoeing right on your doorstep, unless you
prefer bird watching, sunbathing, stargazing, relaxing and enjoying the view.
The AuSable River, world-renowned for fly fishing, is
one of the top 20 trout
fishing rivers in the country. There is a secluded swimming hole within walking
distance. In the winter, you can
snowshoe or cross country ski for several miles right on the property.

In the village of Jay, just
two miles away, you can visit the Old Covered Bridge and
frolic in the Jay Rapids, named recently the Best Rural Swimming Hole in the
nation by Sports Women Illustrated. On
Saturday nights, you take your lawn chair to join the
town's residents for the free Summer concerts on the
Village Green. You can also visit the arts and craft fairs,
the artists' workshops and galleries, the farmers'
markets and the garage sales in the area. Jay has a long tradition of being a haven for artists and writers.
In the
Winter, you can go
bushwhacking up the spectacular Jay Mountain Range that is part of the
8,000-acre Jay Mountain Wilderness
Area. A 10 minute drive to Keene takes you to some of the most breathtaking vistas and
exhilarating activities in the Adirondacks. You can hike up the Nun-da-gao Ridge, a little used and stunning trail north of Hurricane Mountain. The
Ridge (high point, 3,090 feet), also known as the Soda Range, follows an arc from
Big Crow to the summit of Weston Mountain, overlooking Lost Pond.
From Keene, you can also embark on a
cross-country ski or snowshoe expedition along the Jackrabbit Trail, a 35 mile trail system connecting Keene
to Lake Placid, Saranac Lake and Paul Smiths.
If
downhill skiing is your passion, Whiteface Mountain is
8 miles away. It is the only Olympic downhill ski
center in the East, with a vertical drop of 3,430
feet. It is the highest point in New York State
accessible by car. You can also ride up to the summit
via the Cloudsplitter gondola.
Mount Van
Hoevenberg, site of the 1980 Olympic Games, is home to the newest
combined track for bobsled, luge and skeleton racing. The site
provides 35 miles of groomed cross-country skiing and snowshoeing trails that
are open for mountain hiking in the Summer.
