DESCRIPTION
Red Oak is a wonderful and affordable family vacation place or retreat for couples in the scenic and wild Adirondack Mountains. People have returned year after year to vacation at our place and by reading their comments in the guest book, one can see why. The house is located on 8 acres, at the end of a long driveway with several hundred feet of water frontage on the beautiful Saranac River. The yard and property along the river is very private and tranquil. The Saranac has some of the best fly fishing in the Adirondacks. Some of the wildlife that we share the property with include: deer, turkey, grouse, beaver, fisher, fox, porcupine, and an occasional moose. Of course part of the year we enjoy the company of Osprey and Bald Eagles as they nest along the river. Our home is a 1,200 square foot, recently renovated A-Frame that has two bedrooms (one large bedroom with a full size bed and one loft bedroom with two double beds). In the living room there is also full size futon. The home has a full bath and fully equipped kitchen. Whether you are an outdoor enthusiast, or simply want to relax and curl up to a good book, there is always something to do. Only minutes from the house you can find some of the best hiking trails in the Northeast for people of all ages and skill levels. Start out slow or take a crack at some of the 46 high peaks that are over 4,000 feet in elevation. Bring your kayak or canoe and you can boat on Taylor Pond, Union Falls, and Franklin Falls lakes all only minutes away. Build a camp fire in the outdoor fire ring to toast marshmallows or to tell some campfire stories. In the winter months, snowmobiling and skiing are limitless with near by ski resorts and snowmobile trails, Our location offers easy access to Lake Placid and Saranac Lake (30 minutes), Wilmington and Whiteface (20 minutes), Plattsburgh and Lake Champlain/Vermont ferries (30 minutes). If you are real adventuresome you can head up to Montreal which is only 90 minutes away to shop and see a show or museum. The house has plenty of brochures and directions to area attractions and we are always willing to provide further details about the area to help you plan your itinerary. Head up to the North Country to build memories with your family and rediscover what life is all about.
