| 77 Sunset Strait is located on the southern tip of Buck Island, the first island on Lake Placid. Built in the 1950's, it was a bunk house for the camp next door. When the Hoffmans bought it in 1987, it had a flat roof in need of repair. So the Hoffmans put on a second floor.
The downstairs consists of a living room with a woodstove, an eat-in kitchen and bath. The kitchen has a full size stove and refrigerator, a coffee maker, microwave, dishes plus pots and pans. The linen and towels are also provided. The living room and kitchen each have a large picture window. From these windows, there is a spectacular view of the lake and the Maclntyre Range in the Adirondacks. A red oak spiral staircase is your way to the bedrooms upstairs. The master bedroom has a queen size bed and an outside balcony. The back bedroom has two sets of bunk beds. This camp sleeps only 6 people. Outside a porch stretches across the front of the camp. The porch has a picnic table and barbeque grill. A hammock is set up in the front yard. There is also an outdoor fireplace. The shore is quite rocky. It is advised to wear feet protectors when walking in the water. You can swim off the dock. Guests are welcome to use the canoe on the boat rack. It is very quiet on the island. The camp sits between two camps. One about 100 feet away and the other about 150 feet away. The forest is pretty dense between you and your neighbors. This is a BOAT ACCESS ONLY camp. The RENTERS are responsible for providing a boat. If you need to rent a boat we suggest you call Swiss Marine in Saranac Lake. Their number is 518-891-2130. The camp comes with a boat slip and auto parking place at the Lake Placid Marina. 77 Sunset Strait is rented on a weekly basis. The week is Friday to Friday. It is a seasonal rental and is only available from the last weekend in June to Labor Day Weekend. To make a reservation, please call 1-800-258-9350. |
