| Now taking reservations for 2012 as the calendar is up to date for partial weeks and weekends starting in April, full weeks in July and August, and back into partial weeks and weekends until the leaf-peeping season of October.
Thank you for a successful second year of summer rentals. I appreciate the caring people who took care of my house and kept it in an ultra-clean fashion. A full bathroom remodeling will take place in the spring so by next season, every room in the house will have been remodeled completely. ------------- A secluded oasis directly on the magnificent Upper Chateaugay Lake, this property has been completely remodeled inside and out in the last five years. Located as the second to last house on a dead-end private road, yet directly in-front of the deepest part of the lake at 70 feet deep, this house and property is ideal for a get-away. Upper Chateaugay Lake leads into the Lower Chateaugay Lake via the Narrows for a total of 9 miles. The property, on the East shores and on a very gentle slope with 110 feet of direct lake-front, has breathtaking views of unspoiled, NY State parkland and mountains. Be sure not to miss the unbelievable sunsets across the lake to the West with bright oranges and purples - true eye candy. Of course, another benefit of spectacular sunsets is the ability to sleep in during the mornings without being awoken by beams of sun in the early hours. Additionally, stargazing at night will enable you to see more stars in one night than in a lifetime. Clear, crisp and full of memories. Each room of the house has been remodeled, including the Mahogany master bedroom, Douglas fir guest room with built-in full size bed, slated side entryway, granite kitchen, and Pine tongue-and-groove dining nook and living room. Both bedrooms have plenty of closet space and night stands/tables. Grand views of the lake are easily visible from the master, side entryway, dining nook and living room. As of now, the full bathroom has not been remodeled but is clean and functional. This will be remodeled in spring, 2012. Entry into the refreshing waters of Upper Chateaugay is easily done via the three steps at the end of the large, 8x16, dock. You are able to walk out 10 - 15 feet before being over your head. The other option is to use the extra-wide (10 feet) and extra-deep treaded (10") staircase at the other end of the property easily. This is where we usually hop into/out of our kayaks or canoes. An area adjacent the dock allows for boats too. The lake bottom is firm, not soft and mucky, with a huge swath of rocks cleared for easy walking. The outdoor porch area, reached directly from the side entryway, allows for great meals on the picnic table while watching the loons on the lake, as well as camp fire stories at the firepit area in the evening. Lawn games are delightfully played on the expansive lawn on all sides of the house. Upper Chateaugay Lake is regarded as one of the Top Fishing Waters by NY State Department of Environmental Conservation for its Rainbow Trout, Lake Trout, Small Mouth Bass, and Landlocked Salmon. Kayaking, canoeing, and fishing are idyllic during the morning or evening hours when the lake is glassy, while sailing can be enjoyed when the breeze kicks in during the afternoons. Of course, boating can be enjoyed anytime. For the Olympian hopefuls, swimming across the lake is about one mile. The U-turn driveway has great curb appeal, inviting guests to enjoy their stay at my home. Even during the height of the summer season, you can find peace and true tranquility for few neighbors are ever present. Even if they are there, our houses are far apart for I can only see one neighbor's house partially. There are only 594 property owners on the Upper & Lower lakes and most of those are located on the smaller, Lower, lake. On any given hot afternoon in July or August, one can easily count the number of boaters on a single hand for there is little boat traffic on the larger part, Upper, of the Chateaugay Lakes. In essence, my property is very private and no external noise can be heard except for the wind, birds, waves and the occasional woodpecker and loon. The main road, Route 374, is three miles away and leads to nearby antique shopping, ice cream stands, restaurants, pizza parlors, delis, bakeries, convenient stores, farm stands, windmill farms, the NY State boat launch and mountainous hiking trails. Further out, it'll bring you to Malone, fairgrounds, Montreal, Saranac, Lake Placid, Plattsburgh, Vermont, large grocery stores, shopping malls, and movie theaters. Included in the rental is a three-person canoe, a two-person kayak, life vests and noodles, a 8x10 swim float (platform) 25 feet out and in 15' of water, and a mooring, also 25 feet out and in 15' of water, to hook your own boat to. Suggested boating excursions include paddling to the beginning of the south inlet, at the very end of the Upper Lake, and meandering the waterways to the numerous beaver damns more than a mile in. Or make your way to the infamous sand bar at the edge of the Narrows for a game of frisbee in ankle-deep water and an afternoon picnic on the wide beach. Novices and experts will enjoy the adventures to be had. Firewood is present but is not to be used for this is my own stash. There is an internet cafe/family restaurant, named the White Birch Deli Market, is about three miles away where you can enjoy a cup of coffee and fresh pastries while checking your e-mail. They have applied for their liquor license but as of now, you can't enjoy a beer while surfing the net. They also have breakfast specials and full lines of lunch and dinner including prime rib. Other restaurants nearby include the pub, the Owly Out, for beer, pizza and wings plus the lakeside Hollywood specializing in their lakeside menu. Pontoon boat rentals as well as other motor boat rentals is done just past the NYS Boat Launch at Martin's Bait and Tackle off Route 374. Lastly, the number of people allowed to stay at my house is limited to a maximum of five, two full-size beds plus a full-size sofa-sleeper. This is to discourage large parties of people. This is the absolute maximum. My property manager is located three miles away if any questions or incidences arise. Check in time is 2:30 and check out time is 10:30, running Saturday to Saturday. Mid-week rentals are available in other months outside of July and August. Fifteen more detailed pictures of my house, property, and lake can be sent to you via e-mail. Please call any day from 9 a.m. - 9 p.m. for more information. The on-line calendar is updated as soon as a reservation is booked and is always up to date. I respond to all inquiries that same day except on weekends when I am in the Adirondacks. What this place is not: It's not Lake George or Sacandaga Lake with constant boat traffic. It's not Saratoga Lake with neighbors every 50 feet apart. It's not Lake Placid with confined tourism. It's not Chazy Lake, with a main road seen and heard by half the lake of only 3 miles long. What this place does not and will not have: Wi-Fi or Internet access - signals can be reached at the top of School Hill Road or at the White Birch Deli but I feel it is necessary to step away from our multi-tasking world for a short time and get into the Adirondacks. In summary, Upper Chateaugay Lake is by far the biggest and best lake in the northern Adirondacks as well as my home being the best value with a touch of elegance and grandeur. ----------------------------------Testimonials---------------------------------------------------------------------- "It's too dangerous. It's just too relaxing and enticing." Moira from Saratoga, NY, who stayed in July 2010, referring to the lakeside hammock. "Calm, serene, and private... At night, the view of the stars is dazzling, the Milky Way is unbelievably bright and clear. On a warm afternoon, nothing beats sitting in a back-patio canvas chair, feet up on the fire pit, watching a bald eagle high above (that happened!) Just wonderful." Tristi from Chapel Hill, NC, who stayed in July 2010. "We enjoyed your restful, serene setting. It was all you said it would be, and more." Ginny from Long Island, NY, who stayed for a weekend in June 2010. "Valerie and I just wanted to say how much we enjoyed staying at your place on the Lake this summer. It was a very special time for us, and your place was the perfect spot. Thanks again!" He goes on to say: "We had the most amazing two weeks and would definitely go back." Aaron from Manhattan, NY, who stayed in July 2010 "The house had great "Feng Shui" - truly warm, comfortable, inviting, and relaxing. Can't be beat for the price! The property is beautiful. The views outstanding! Quiet and peaceful. The hammock is awesome!" Steve and Linda from Cape Cod, MA, who stayed in August 2010 "The camp is beautiful, and it has one of the greatest views on Upper Chateaugay Lake. We especially enjoyed the dock, the canoe and kayak." Lynn and her mom Sandy from Potsdam, NY, who stayed in August 2010 "Comfortable, well stocked, charming home on a very scenic and quiet location. Close to interesting day trip destinations and fascinating geocaching sites. Most relaxing vacation we've ever had!" Tim, Judy, Earl & Jane (2 couples) from Rochester, NY, who stayed in August 2010 "Thank you so much for sharing your lake house with us! We had a great week, perfect weather and Adirondack comfort. We couldn't ask for more! We appreciated the quiet of the area, the view of the lake, the sound of the loons, and just sitting on the dock!" Kathy and Bob from Albany, NY, who stayed in August 2010 "We had a great time and the cabin was lovely. There were many well-thought conveniences, but the cabin still felt quaint with a beauti |
