Welcome to The Woodholme on Seventh Lake.

The Woodholme was built in 1897 on the quiet north shore of Seventh Lake and has operated ever since as a destination for generations of guests seeking the timeless qualities of rejuvenation, relaxation, and to be re-energized in the fresh, life-giving air of the Adirondack Mountains.

We offer two cabins for rent, The Pines and The Birches, each comfortably sleeping 8 guests. Built in the 1930's, they have maintained all of their rustic charm and character both inside and out. Sitting porches on each level allows for some quiet time, or, a place to engage in conversation; the threshold of a bygone time. The upper level in both cabins each have a full bath and four bedrooms (3 full, 2 single beds). The lower level has a 1/2 bath, fully supplied kitchen with service for eight, dining area, and living room in an open floor plan. Guests, please bring your own linens. Pillows and comforters are provided. The kids or anyone who is a kid at heart can enjoy the game room in a separate building, The Cedars. When a change of pace is needed from the outdoor activities, here is an out of the way bucolic space to hangout playing Foosball, Ping Pong, or Darts.

As for outdoor activities, 150' of shoreline offers not just swimming off the dock or a relaxing spot to read, but becomes a gateway to fishing, canoeing, kayaking, and SUP's. Stand Up Paddleboards, experience the sensation of standing on water, gliding across its stillness as the sky brightens and the sun's first rays break over the mountain's ridges streaming down upon you. Turn your face to the sun, close your eyes, feel its warmth caress your face.

Be Still.

Just Breathe.

After returning to shore, a cup of coffee somehow tastes so much better.

Over half of Seventh Lake is owned by the state. Take the kayaks to explore the biologically diverse natural state of the shoreline. Loons are often seen hunting in this area as you paddle down past Arnold's Point and Arnold's Rock to the uninhabited island with its sandy beach. Here is a popular yet low key gathering spot in the summer, an ideal place for a picnic and to spend some time in its gentle and shallow waters.

Hiking trails lead from the property, traversing state land and intersecting with others taking you as far as you can imagine going. You may like to take the opportunity to try "forest bathing", a term created in Japan, where you don't just walk through the forest but use all of your senses to consciously immerse yourself in the sights, sounds, scents and the touch, feel, and different textures of the forest atmosphere. This contemplative experience as you journey through the forest (whether it be for 20 min. or 2 hrs.) has been shown to have remarkable effects on your physiological as well as your psychological well-being.

Those looking for a little more adventure can take on the family friendly Old Forge Trifecta Hiking Challenge. These are three gratifying hikes to the summits of Rocky, Bald, and Black Bear Mountains, each offering impressive panoramic views. All three trailheads are within a 10 min. drive of each other. And at a quicker pace, mountain biking or trail riding has become quite popular in the Old Forge/Inlet area. It's fun, safer than road biking, and an excellent whole-body workout. There is a plethora of trails in the region from easy to difficult offering riders of all ages many different routes and terrain in which to enjoy themselves and the scenery.

In addition to and as a counterpointe for the scenic and picturesque activities this region has to offer, the nearby towns of Inlet and Old Forge provide for specialty shopping, dining, groceries, pastry and bakery shops, cafes, ice cream stands, bike rentals, golfing, and one of the largest water parks in the region, Enchanted Forest Water Safari. Arrowhead Park, the heart of downtown Inlet and located on Fourth Lake offers spectacular sunsets, a public sandy beach, tennis, baseball/softball, picnic areas, playground, and a boardwalk. Throughout the summer it is host to symphony concerts and art exhibits. Nearby Great Camp Sagamore, a National Historic Landmark along with The Adirondack Museum in Blue Mountain Lake each display the rich history of the Adirondack Mountains dating from pre-European time to the modern era. Both are fascinating in their own right.

When the day is over, dinner finished, and the loons start their calls, welcoming the stars out one by one, take a moment from your campfire and on a clear night stroll down to the water's edge and out onto the dock. Look up to see the Milky Way galaxy as she cuts across the night sky directly overhead, looking much like a muted water-colored pastel hazy cloud floating in from over the mountains. Or watch low orbit satellites stream overhead as they traverse the outer atmosphere. Keep watching, if you're lucky you'll see a shooting star or two, or seven. There is very little light pollution and the depth of the night sky can be as mesmerizing as the old-growth forest outside your bedroom window. Listen to her. Fall asleep with just the screens of the open windows to allow the gentle breezes through, carrying with them the songs of the loons.

Sleep well and soundly.

A new day will dawn.

What will you do with it ?

Welcome to The Woodholme
