After many years of visiting the Adirondacks and enjoying all the seasons of the North Country, our dream of a home of our own in this beautiful place happened. In 2020 we purchased 11 acres of woodland outside of Bloomingdale, NY, and construction of our Amish-built timber frame home began. Our cottage is surrounded by 11 acres of maple, birch, oak, ash and hardy spruce and pines, a nature-lovers paradise. Wildlife neighbors include deer, wild turkeys, red and grey fox, and numerous species …of birds including a resident pileated woodpecker. Red and grey squirrels and chipmunks are constantly scurrying about and posing on nearby boulders. Inside, massive Douglas fir posts and beams project a warm glow from the great room cathedral ceilings to the cozy bedrooms on the main floor and loft. Large windows make you feel part of the flora and wildlife of the forest. The fully-equipped kitchen has all new full-sized appliances and a 3x12 butcher block island with plenty of space for food prep, serving and casual seating. An adjoining dining area and the cozy breakfast nook open into the great room its comfy sitting area, ADK twig-style rockers and side chairs, floor to ceiling views, 55-inch HD TV with peripheral speakers, , cable tv, high speed internet, and a collection of books and games. Wide-plank hickory floors throughout are heated from beneath. The cottage has 1 baths. The main floor bath has a spacious walk-in shower and thermostat-controlled radiant heat. A private half bath is on the loft level. The first floor bedroom features a queen bed, dresser with desk, and closet. The spacious loft bedroom has a queen bed, dresser with full mirror, and overlooks the great rooms window-filled south wall. The lofts north window allows an almost floor-to-ceiling view of the north woods and boulder-encircled firepit. A privacy curtain can be drawn to completely separate the loft from view. A separate main floor utility room provides a full-sized washer and dryer with laundry sink. To keep you warm in the winter and cool in the summer, the home is super insulated and has a high-efficiency heat pump for heating and air conditioning. In addition, a professionally-designed solar heat system keeps the temperature constant throughout the cottage. With this design, the heat pump rarely comes on in all but the winter months. For outdoor enjoyment, there is a large patio with table, Adirondack chairs and a Weber gas-ignited charcoal grill and bubbling fountain. The gently winding driveway is a tunnel of color in the fall and is always plowed in the winter. A one minute walk leads to a spectacular view of Whiteface Mountain and local wildflower species lining the lane are a delight. The 11 acres has ample space for walks in the woods, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. The broader area offers numerous venues for almost any winter sport at the Olympic sites at Lake Placid, Whiteface Mountain, and Mt. Van Hoevenberg, all within 30 minutes. This January through March, the area will be welcoming the 2023 FISU Winter World University Games, the FIS Ski Jumping World Cup, the ECAC Mens Hockey Championship, the ISU World Synchronized Skating Championships, and the Empire State Winter Games. Even closer (7 miles) are the family-oriented Mt. Pisgah Ski Area, ice fishing at Lake Colby, ice skating, curling and the unique activities of the Saranac Lake Winter Carnival. Warm weather activities close by include hiking and wildlife observation on the many local trails as well as canoeing, kayaking and fishing on nearby Moose Pond, Osgood Pond and the Saranac River. These waters and shorelines are clean and uncrowded. Summers are generally cooler and less humid in the Adirondacks than in other parts of the East. The 3000-acrea Paul Smiths College VIC offers trails and nature education activities year round. The summer butterfly house is not to be missed. The schools own sugar bush produces delicious maple syrup for sale to the public. (10 miles).

“Had a wonderful stay at your beautiful bit of paradise. Our days were filled with hiking, visiting Saranac Lake farmers/craft market and exploring the regions local artist shops. The well-equipped kitchen with its butcher block island provided the perfect space to recap our day, show off our treasures and prepare our meals. Surrounded by woods the post and beam timber frame and its comfortable beds lent itself to a great night sleep. Over all it was a great place to stay for our sisters gathering. Memories were made and we loved it! Thank you for your hospitality, Marisa, Diane and Rianna ”

“Beautiful home, very private yet within short distance to skiing, fishing, lakes, hiking, restaurants and breweries. Owners provided a clean, warm atmosphere for us to enjoy our 5 night stay. Wildlife viewing right outside the windows- deer, turkey, squirrels and the most colorful woodpeckers and birds. Kitchen was well stocked for all our cooking needs and beds so comfortable. Owners were quick to respond to icy conditions in driveway that had occurred overnight so that we were on our way with no issues. We highly recommend this rental and will certainly be back in near future.”

“What a find! Close to the amenities of town with the privacy and natural beauty of the woods, all to yourself. Our first day at Moose Camp the temperature plummeted from 40 degrees to about 10, and the snow came in. The impeccable construction on this new timber frame proved itself as we never touched a thermostat or felt a moment's chill indoors! In the morning we sipped coffee while watching "bird TV" through the large windows, then went out to explore the winter wonderland of the property and surrounding area. The kitchen has everything you could imagine needing to make a lovely meal to share with family and friends. If you'd rather not cook Hex and Hop brew pub is just down the hill, or you can head into nearby Saranac Lake for a choice of great restaurants. Bloomingdale is a wonderful home base for exploring the whole region, from Paul Smith's College Visitor's Interpretive Center, over to Lake Placid and Whiteface, and all around the many lakes and protected public lands. Owners are friendly, great communicators, and doing business was flawless. Thank you! We will be back.”
