“I rented this property in July 2022. There were six adults total, which included my parents who are in their mid 80's. The property is as described on this site and has easy access from the main road. The end of driveway is steep but ample room to navigate and get turned around even if towing a small boat. Adequate space for cars and boat trailer parking. It is an older cottage right on the lake with a beautiful view of the water for morning coffee and evening camp fires & just relaxing. The cottage is comfortable including the beds and is very clean for its age; did not smell "musty". There is no oven, but we did not miss it. Our meals were planned in advance with that understanding. We used the provided propane gas grill that is in good condition for dinner meals. The provided canoe and kayaks were used almost daily, as the Lake is great for paddling. The owner was very attentive and courteous to our questions and clarifications prior to our stay. The owner provided a sufficient amount of information (location of grocery store, medical services, library, area interests, activities to do, etc.) to ensure an enjoyable stay. He also texted me during our stay alerting us to a potential severe thunder storm and what to do if we lost power, which did not happen. Overall, we were all very satisfied with the accommodations and our stay. Great location for hiking, paddling and relaxing. I would without hesitation stay at this property again.”

“My family of 5 (3 adult children) rented Camp Silence for a week in late July and loved it. If you're looking for a peaceful location and like paddling, this is a great spot. The cottage came with a canoe, 2 kayaks and a rowboat. Lake Abanakee is perfect for paddling; no large motorboats, reasonably calm waters and lots to see - we saw loons, river otters, beaver, osprey and deer on our paddles and several times from the cottage itself. The cottage is outfitted well for normal use; electric stovetop burners (no full stove) and 2 grills - gas and charcoal, which we used most nights, 2 full bathrooms and washer and dryer. A Keurig was very nice for me, as I woke up before everyone else and could make a cup of coffee and enjoy the morning peace from the dock w/o bothering the rest. It's about 5 minutes from Indian Lake, which is centrally located between Blue Mt Lake and North Creek, where there is a grocery store. We took several hikes, rode the rail bikes in North Creek, did white water rafting out of Indian Lake, and visited the ADK Museum, all within a 30 minute drive. The tap water (lake water) isn't drinkable but the cottage has a water cooler and the stores carry inexpensive jug water and we got through the week's cooking and coffee with about 4 gallons. The one negative if you have young kids is that the lake isn't great for swimming as it's more of a river - muddy bottom and no "beach." For what we were looking for, a place to spend time on the water and play some cards and board games and catch up with kids that we don't see often enough, it was perfect. Lastly, the owner was extremely helpful with information and with good suggestions of hikes, places to go and things to do. If we were looking to go to the ADKs, I'd put this rental at the top of my list. ”

“This was our second year here and just getting around to writing a review as we check the calendar for availability for 2018! We absolutely love this place. We usually go with 4 adults and 3- 5 kids all ages. There is ample room for all. There is a nice flat screen tv and a good selection of DVD and VHS tapes. It has a nice sound system that is bluetooth compatible to connect your phone to so you you can listen to your own music. There is wi-fi. The kitchen is well stocked. I love sitting at the kitchen table in the morning drinking a cup of coffee while staring at the lake which is literally 25' from the house, watching the wildlife. We've seen Bald Eagle, beaver, Herron and lots of other waterfowl. Our kids loved swimming off the dock and the young kids loved the pedal boat and hanging out on the small island directly across the lake. There are lots of watercraft to choose from. I enjoyed quiet paddles in a kayak around the lake for hours. It is so peaceful and there are lots of places to explore. The owner is always so helpful in recommending hikes and activities in the area. Loved the Castle rock recommendation. He gave my husband some fishing tips which he said really helped. I think he was catching largemouth bass. Can't wait to get back!”

“I stayed with my sister, her husband and our 5 children. The camp is well stocked with linens and kitchen equipment and outside there are a nice array of watercraft to use. The furnishings are not modern, but are very comfortable. There are 3 bedrooms and a bath upstairs and one bedroom and bath downstairs. Downstairs also has the living room, kitchen, laundry room and screened porch. Of note, the water is not potable, so plan for bringing water. The lake is shallow and there are residual stumps in some places (a dam was built about 100 year ago and the area was flooded). This makes for some bumps and bruises, but also a lot of fun when you can stand in the middle of the cove. There are no cabins across the water, but there are neighbors on the sides of you. A small island across the way made for fun adventures and playtime for the kids. The lake is quiet and peaceful and we learned that boats have a relatively low speed limit in this cove (I forgot the exact speed). This was perfect for swimming off the dock and relaxing without big boats zooming by. However, if you are looking for waterskiing, this is not it. There are osprey nests very close. We saw mergansers and loons and many other birds. There are plenty of trails nearby and the owner was exceedingly helpful in helping us prepare for our trip. He also made himself available if we had questions while we were there. There is limited cell phone service, which is nice for reconnecting with the people you are there with. We hope to go back again next year.”

“Thanks for the nice review and choosing our property for your vacation! There are a lot of shallow areas in the lake but there is also a river channel about 10-15' deep about 15-20' off the dock that runs North/South. Boats with motors will want to stay in and around that channel. It's not hard to find because the water is very clear and once it gets dark you know you're in the deep water. Makes for great fishing too! One of the best things I like is that there are not big boats zooming by when swimming or paddling. That's why it is nice and quiet and you will also see more wildlife up close. However there are bigger lakes close by if you are trailering a boat. We have enough parking to accommodate a trailered boat if needed. Hope to see you again next year!!”

“Last June I wanted to take a week vacation with some of my friends in the Adirondacks (first time). Hiking, canoeing, the works. We just wanted something simple with basic amenities. After looking through a couple of the listings on this site we settled on LAKEFRONT BEAUTY! "CAMP SILENCE". While the name left something to be desired, our time there was trouble free and enjoyable. Although, if I am being fair, it was in fact, pretty silent. We contacted the owner directly and he answered our questions and made the necessary arrangements within a reasonable amount of time. When we got to the house, it was, well, a house. Grill, boats, beds etc all as advertised. Rooms were made and fully furnished. The dining table has a nice view of the lake. Boats provided were standard affair. If we decide to go back, I would keep this house on my short list. The nicest thing was simply enjoying the scenery, eating a couple burgers, drinking a few beers and forgetting about the rest of the world. That is why you go to a place like this. The house is just the leg on the chair.”

“Thank you Alex. Glad you had a good time and that your expectations were met. Just an FYI, although you don't care for the camp name, it came about this past winter as we were standing outside in single digit temps, no wind, no birds, no cars etc.......the silence was deafening, hence the name! (Deafening silence described: the point of silence in which one can feel the fine hairs in the inner ear vibrating with the subtlest change in air pressure.) Hope to have you as a guest in the near future, and glad that we are on your short list, LOL!”
