Description:
Rustic-but-comfortable cabin on 40 largely-wooded acres at 1600' elevation in the secluded "Glen" of Jay, NY at the edge of the Adirondack "High Peaks." Fully furnished. Sleeps 6 - 10 (depending on how chummy you are). Within easy driving distance of "High Peaks" trail heads, skiing at Whiteface Mountain, and civilization in Lake Placid. Perfect for hikers, skiers, snowshoers, fishermen, families, watercolorists, fans of Olympic sports, nudists, and escaped convicts avoiding recapture.

(NOTA BENE: RATES QUOTED BELOW AND AVAILABILITY CALENDAR ARE ALWAYS UP TO DATE. PLEASE DO NOT EMAIL OWNER ASKING FOR RATES AND AVAILABILITY.)

HERE'S WHAT YOU'LL GET: tons of privacy (nearest house is 100-or-more yards away); the sound of the wind and the leaves; wrap-around deck with hammock, "Adirondack" chairs, and a Million Dollar view; 5-acre meadow full of berries (in season) with hiking and XC skiing right out the door; screened-in back porch (furnished in season); big charcoal grill; living room with comfy furniture, cool taxidermy, floor-to-ceiling stone fireplace with raised hearth, and woodstove (wood provided); digital television (not the dinky one in the photos), satellite tv; DVD player (which seconds as a CD player); assorted DVD's; complete kitchen (big fridge and freezer, 4-burner gas stove and oven, microwave, coffee maker, toaster, blender, double sink, a full array of cooking and eating gear) and dining area; 1 full bathroom + 1 half bath; 3 bedrooms (total of 3 queen-sized beds, 2 twin-sized beds, plus queen-sized futon & 2 window seats in living room [our boys like sleeping on the window seats]); stone-ringed fire pit for roasting marshmallows or obtaining information the hard way.

THERE'S LOADS OF WILDLIFE. Spotted on or near the premises: moose; deer; bears; wolves; coyotes; foxes; hawks; owls; hikers; bats; humming birds; rabbits; chipmunks.

STUFF TO DO: Go swimming by the historic covered bridge in Jay, NY (voted "America's Best Swimming Hole" by some swanky women's magazine), or try fishing the Ausable River at the bottom of the hill. Climb one of the nearby 46 "High Peaks." Eat, shop, and wander about Lake Placid (17.7 road miles away). Ski Whiteface Mountain (9.5 road miles away). Go horseback riding at Wilson's Livery in Keene. Buy a to-die-for pie at the Noonmark Diner in Keene Valley, or gather berries in the field and bake your own damn pie. Take the Lake Champlain Ferry over to Burlington, VT for the day. Take the kiddies to North Pole, NY to see Santa's Workshop. Melt in one of our "Adirondack" chairs while sipping your poison of choice. Lie in the hammock after dark and play "Spot the Satellites." Interact with your children. Marvel at The Milky Way. Get a full body tan without getting arrested. Finish a thought for a change.

CREATURE COMFORTS: The cabin is rustic but comfortable (like an Adirondack camp should be, dammit). But don't worry: you'll have everything a 20th Century American required (electricity, heat, indoor plumbing, hot & cold running water, sleeping surfaces off the floor, a telephone) plus a good deal more. (You won't have to cook in a cauldron over an open fire ... unless that's your idea of a good time). But the furniture is not new, and while there is a microwave oven, it doesn't have one of those spin-y-do things. OH, and there are no ridiculous anachronisms: no recessed lighting; no heated towel racks; no mauve wallpaper trim. THIS IS A CABIN IN THE ADIRONDACKS. DID I MENTION THAT? We like it. If what you want from an Adirondack vacation are the "all mod cons" of a townhouse bordering the golf course, then this definitely ain't the place for you. But if the price and sterility of a Lake Placid condo is not your thing, then look no further, because you just found Nirvana AND Utopia AND Heaven on 40 acres. You bring the chocolates.

C'MON! IT'LL BE FUN! You probably won't die. And you'll feel like you actually went somewhere on vacation.

SOME RECENT, EXCLAMATION-FILLED TENANT TESTIMONIALS:

Jeff from Oswego, NY:
"Our stay was great! Thanks so much for everything you did for me, especially how quickly you were able to get us into your cabin. The place is beautiful! I like how removed it is from Lake 'Plastic' and Keene Valley. The views were spectacular, and I think we even saw a coyote or wolf in the meadow our first day there. My wife was so surprised. I had her convinced we were going camping in a tent, and when we got to your cabin, she was quite confused. She was literally speechless for the first hour or so, with the exception of, 'Are you serious? I can't believe this.' We loved the decor as well as the Adirondack reading. We are convinced your cabin would be a great place to stay again and again. Your rates were incredibly fair, and thanks again for that. And thanks for the security deposit. In the past I have had some sketchy vacation landlords really sock me with 'cleaning fees.' I'm happy you weren't one of them."

Adam from Baldwin, NY:
"The camp was probably the nicest vacation place I can remember. You found one of the best spots in the region."

Chris from Ohio:
"Your place and price was a real deal and so comfortable and enjoyable. Can't say enough good things to describe our experience there!"

Kirk & Karen from Avon, NY:
"The place was perfect for us. A warm place to dry out and have a few beers after a day of playing in the snow. Thanks."

John & Cathy from Cleveland, OH:
"We loved the view from the deck...out over the meadow to the mountains during the day, and upwards to the stars at night! The fireplace was great. A very special place on the planet!"

Pete from Ulster Park, NY:
"The views from the porch are spectacular, and there are lots of great things to do in the area. In one weekend we fit in snowshoeing at 'The Garden' in Keene Valley, XC skiing at 'The Cascades' and Mt. Van Hoevenberg, and toboggan runs in the backyard. The camp is comfortable and simple with plenty of back woods charm."

Zoe & Tom from Buffalo, NY:
"We all had an absolutely wonderful time at the cabin! Thanks for providing us with a cozy, friendly, and lovely place to spend Thanksgiving with family and friends."

Lynn from Vermont:
"...comfortable beds...excellent cooking facilities...ample living room. We're already talking about next year's trip."

Ruben from Plattsburgh, NY:
"I appreciate your working with me in making our 23rd anniversary our best ever."

Michelle from Texas:
"It was just as you described - just like home; comfortable. The setting is perfect: private and absolutely beautiful!"

Pat from Plattsburgh, NY:
"The photos of the inside don't do it justice...the warmth just doesn't translate into pictures."

John, Nola & Jordan from Australia:
"We were totally taken by our stay! We absolutely loved it! I can't imagine a better place to stay in the Adirondacks."

Jim from Vermont:
"My college friends and I get together every winter for a weekend getaway. This winter's was our best yet. We had planned to rent a place and hit the slopes all day, but ended up staying at the cabin reminiscing in front of a roaring fire most of the weekend. We found a world-class snowshoe trail about 300 feet from your front door, and did some XC skiing in the field with its view of the High Peaks."

Wolfgang & Birgit from Wilmington, DE:
"We enjoyed every minute of our vacation. Our first thought after arriving was, 'Yes, that's what we wanted, everything done right! High Five!' Your description on the website is pretty accurate, so there were no surprises at all. We especially liked the secluded location and the coziness of the cottage. We also liked that you took care of linens and towels, which meant to us, 'Just come in and start your vacation!'"
