The second floor loft overlooks the living room and has easy chairs, a game table, a day bed with second trundle, and a mounted television for internet and streaming services. Our home is located about 0.9 miles down White Pine Road off Route 86 in Paul Smiths, about 10 miles north of the Village of Saranac Lake. The property includes almost two acres of forest and over 300 feet of lakefront on the east shore of Osgood Pond. The lakefront is down a steep hill from the house (there are stairs), and has a deck and a seasonal dock. The dock is removed for winter on or about October 15, and reinstalled on or about May 15. Bring your own kayak or canoe, or you can take advantage of the rental services of Adirondack Lakes and Trails Outfitters, Saranac Lake. https://www.adirondackoutfitters.com/. The adventurous can carry a canoe down our 64 stairs from the driveway and house to the waterfront, others can use the public launch a half mile up White Pine Road and paddle to the property. The deck, front porch, front yard, berry patch, wooded hillside, and dock all offer plenty of space to rest, relax, and explore outside.
The Area:
Osgood House provides a great home base for many activities. Fishing in Osgood Pond is noted for bass and pike. Twice the N.Y. Times has described Osgood Pond as one of the 10 best spots to fish in New York State. Paddlers can connect to other ponds through man made canals and see all forms of Adirondack wildlife on the Osgood River or inlet. Much of Osgood's shoreline is owned by NY State, and will never be developed. There are many marked hiking trails within easy walking distance of our home. The Red Dot trailhead is off White Pine Road, half a mile up from our home. Many trails double as cross country ski trails once snow flies, and provide a beautiful view of Adirondack wilderness in all seasons. Hikers looking for a peak with a view can be at St. Regis Mountain or Jenkins Mountain trailheads in a matter of minutes by car. The famous Jackrabbit Ski Trail http://www.jackrabbittrail.org crosses White Pine Road not far from our home. Stay close and explore the wilderness, or go for a longer adventure.

“The Osgood House is a beautifully appointed, well maintained, comfortable house that is kept very clean. We loved that every cabinet and drawer was labelled in the kitchen. This made cooking easier for our one week stay. The kitchen was well supplied with basics that included plenty of ground coffee. Osgood Pond is a nice lake to paddle. We paddled the Osgood River up to the beaver dam and this year due to the high water level and ill kept beaver dams we were able to paddle the Jones Pond outlet all the way to Jones Pond. The number of steps down to the dock was a manageable factor in our enjoyment of the lake but it was a factor. We werent able to carry our fiberglass boats down to the water so we opted to paddle them from the public launch. This involved a half mile drive from the house and a half hour paddle to the dock. We had to store the boats on the dock so there wasnt much dock space to be used but there was a nice platform above the dock that was functional. The water level at the dock was 1.5 to 2 feet deep so we had to tie our kayak seats to the dock in order to get into the boats. Im mentioning all of this because the devil is in the details for avid paddlers like my wife and I.”
Owner's Response
“Thank you for your thorough review. We take all comments seriously and use them for continuous improvement. Carrying boats down the stairs is truly only for the adventurous, so I am glad our description of the public launch was helpful for you. The paddle through to Jones Pond is very special and we are glad you were able to experience it.”

“This rental unit was perfect for our needs! The house is very user-friendly and comfortable, clean and well-appointed. And its location on a quiet pond just enhanced our enjoyment. We were able to carry our canoe down the 65 stairs to paddle the shoreline and canals amidst the spectacular foliage. And the quiet road allowed us to start our mornings with a brisk walk with very little traffic. The host was very accomodating and provided immediate assistance during our three-week stay twice when minor problems occurred. The fireplace was a nice bonus on cool mornings! We hardly needed nor wanted to go anywhere else, the place was too easy to stay home and cook in and overlook the pond on the deck or porch.”

“We are glad you enjoyed your visit and hope you plan to return.”

“As described: Clean, well-appointed and well organized. It was a pleasure to walk in and feel like you could unpack without worrying that you should really give the place a good clean. Because the place was so well organized, it was easy to find just what you needed in the kitchen. There was plenty of back stock for consumable items. Osgood Pond is probably the quietest place we have stayed in the ADK in the last 7 years, and it was so lovely that we never turned the TV on once. It was a warm week, so we spent time sitting on the plastic Adirondack chairs in the lake next to the dock waiting for the next loon call. There may have been wine involved and it is the best way to cool down after a hike. The screened porch was wonderful as this was the first year we have been bothered by mosquitos in September. It was a great place to sit out and read, listen for loons and watch the lake through the trees. The owners stopped by for a friendly hello and although we didn't need a thing, it made me feel confident that anything we needed would be handled appropriately. It was a pleasure to stay here.”

“we just completed our second stay at the Osgood House. I have to say this house and surroundings have provided some of the most pleasurable experiences I've had anywhere I've been. “ Our stay at this property could not have been more pleasant. Natural beauty abounds. Very comfortable and clean accommodations await you. Pick your spot: screened in porch; deck with stunning views; dockside on the pristine lake; or inside by a beautiful fire place which is well stocked with plenty of seasoned firewood.. All mechanicals were in good working order. Very responsive and accessible owners should the need arise. If relaxing is your thing with no worries, then the Osgood House would be a very good option to consider. ”

“I could say so many wonderful things about this place! I have never had a vacation as relaxing and peaceful as I did on Osgood Pond. We stayed for a week over 4th of July. This cabin has everything you could possibly need for a wonderful stay. Lots of room, and I've never had a ceiling fan provide so much cool air as I did here! The beds were very comfortable, the bathrooms had everything you needed, the kitchen was well stocked and it was nice having the cupboards labeled for where things were. I could have sat on that deck in an Adirondack chair all day, but then I would have had to pass up on the amazing kayaking and fishing on the pond. The screened porch was very nice to have in the evening as the mosquitoes are very hungry, but of course there was bug spray provided if needed.... The owners really did think of just about everything!I can't wait to stay here again someday! Absolutely loved it here! ”

“We had a wonderful family stay at the Osgood House. The house was excellently appointed. It was clean and well organized. Our teens loved the loft for hanging out, and the adults loved the porches for enjoying the view and relaxing. The hosts were warm and welcoming and answered any questions we had. The pond was fun to fish for bass, and there was plenty to do for everyone in the area - hiking, biking, paddling, fishing, and of course, the requisite trip to Lake Placid (1/2 hour away). We'd love to return in the winter for skiing and skating!”

The home was well equipped, including all the kids gear you would need (including life jackets). My only complaint is that we couldnt stay longer! We would rate this home a 10/10 and highly recommend. Thanks to our host David!”

“ We enjoyed a week in this spacious, beautifully outfitted home. The view of the pond was spectacular. It was perfectly secluded yet very accessible.. Our stay at Osgood Pond could have not been more perfect..Our hosts had everything you could possibly need available. We arrived during black fly season and were thoughtfully provided with bug spray so we didnt have to return to the store. The area has hiking trails for all levels of difficulty. After hiking we returned to a beautiful porch and dock to relax while the kids played in the pond and kayaked. In the evening the screened porch was the place to gather for the adults while the children took over the loft. The kitchen was not lacking a single item and cooking meals was as easy in our own kitchen. Everything was labeled which made it so easy to find things and keep the kitchen in order. We are already talking about our next trip.”

“Had a wonderful stay at this spacious, clean updated house on the serene 500 acre Osgood Pond last July. I have to say this was one of the most relaxing, secluded and pleasurable locations Ive been to in quite a while. If you like quietude and natures beauty - this is the one. Will return. The owners are very accommodating and accessible. ”

“Summer 2022 was an enjoyable time at Osgood House with our family. The home is spacious, comfortable, well equipped, well kept, and provided a beautiful view of the clear lake. It is an easy walk up and down the stairs to the dock. The water was clean and warm for swimming-a nice surprise. The large screened porch and deck was our hangout. The location is far enough away from the busy Lake Placid area but close enough to head into the town for dinner or shopping. This home is well cared for. We look forward to returning in 2023. ”

“Our family was able to visit the Osgood House back in mid-July of 2022. The house was clean and had everything that our family needed including a pack-and-play that made even our infant son feel welcome! From the spacious kitchen, relaxing living room, comfortable bedrooms, and the jaw-dropping outdoor staircase, which leads to a private dock, where we watched the sunset, there was no need to leave the house! However, the owners gave us multiple (almost endless) suggestions of things to check out in the area. One place, in particular, we fell in love with was Lake Clear. We made the quick ride over and were blown away as we walked through the wooded trail which opened to an inviting sandy beach! With a gradual grade into the water our son enjoyed splashing and spending the day at this family-friendly beach. Our family has spent many vacations in rental homes and this is at the top of the list! If you are thinking about visiting the area and need a place to stay, look no further! Tom and Mary T. “ My wife and I spent four nights at Osgood House during the Saranac Lake Winter Carnival. The location is perfect for cross country skiing and snowshoeing with excellent trails within minutes of the house. There was well over a foot of snow when we arrived but everything was plowed and shoveled. The house has a nice, bright, open interior with beautiful views of the lake. The furnishings are all quite comfortable. Our hosts attention to detail is most impressive. They have thought of everything, from condiments in the kitchen to tissue boxes in each bedroom and bath. Even lighting and lamps are well placed. It was the coldest weekend of the season so we can't say we enjoyed the waterfront, though we did snowshoe across the lake. We also enjoyed a cozy fire which was set and ready to light when we arrived, another thoughtful detail. Our one wish is that we could stay longer and bring more friends to share this wonderful winter getaway.”
