More info and photos on the "Liberty Acres" [no exclamation point] Facebook page.

Rustic-but-comfortable cabin on 40 largely-wooded acres at 1600' elevation in the secluded "Glen" of Jay, NY, at the edge of the Adirondack "High Peaks." Fully furnished. Sleeps 6 - 10 depending on how chummy you are. (That said, I wouldn't want to be cooped up there with more than 5 or 6 others.) Within easy driving distance of "High Peaks" trailheads, skiing at Whiteface Mountain, and civilization in Lake Placid. Perfect for hikers, honeymooners, fishermen, families, fans of Olympic sports, skiers, watercolorists, nudists, and escaped convicts avoiding recapture.

HERE'S WHAT YOU'LL GET: tons of privacy; the sound of the wind and the leaves; wrap-around deck with hammock, "Adirondack chairs" and a Million Dollar view; big meadow full of berries with hiking and XC skiing right out the door; screened-in back porch (furnished in season); charcoal/wood grill; living room with comfy furniture, cool taxidermy, floor-to-ceiling stone fireplace and wood-burning stove (wood provided); 47" flatscreen digital TV for playing DVD's; DVD player; a plethora of DVD's; HDMI patch cord for watching Amazon Prime or Netflix (if you have a subscription); new iHome; old iHome; boombox with assortment of cds (which reflect my musical taste, which is excellent I might add); complete kitchen & eating area with all necessary implements of destruction (including a dishwasher once you arrive); 1 full bathroom; 1 half bath; 3 bedrooms; stone-ringed fire pit for roasting marshmallows or obtaining information the hard way.

New for Summer 2020: high-speed WIFI; HDMI patch cord to TV.

THERE'S LOADS OF WILDLIFE. Spotted on or near the premises: moose; deer; bears; wolves; coyotes; porcupines; foxes; hawks; owls; bats; hikers; humming birds; wild turkeys; rabbits; red squirrels; chipmunks.

STUFF TO DO: go swimming by the historic covered bridge in Jay, NY (voted "America's Best Swimming Hole" by some swanky women's magazine); fish the nearby Ausable River; climb one of the nearby 46 "High Peaks," or climb Mt. Jay across the street; eat, shop, and wander about Lake Placid (17.7 road miles away); ski Whiteface Mountain (9.5 road miles away); buy a to-die-for pie [we recommend "Very Berry Crumble"] at the Noonmark Diner in Keene Valley, or gather berries in the field [blueberries, blackberries, raspberries] and bake your own damn pie; take the Lake Champlain Ferry over to Burlington, VT, for the day; take the kiddies to "North Pole, NY" (America's first amusement park) to see Santa's Workshop; melt in one of our "Adirondack chairs" whilst sipping your poison of choice; lie in the hammock after dark and play "Spot the Satellites"; marvel at The Milky Way; get a full body tan without getting arrested; learn your children's names; finish a thought for a change.

CREATURE COMFORTS: The cabin is comfortable but rustic (like an Adirondack camp should be, dammit). But don't worry - you'll have almost everything a 20th Century American required, plus a good deal more: cushions; heat; electricity; flush toilets; running water [including hot!]; big-screen TV; sleeping surfaces off the floor; i.e., you won't have to cook in an iron cauldron over an open fire (unless that's your idea of a good time). But just so you know, the furniture is not new and the forks don't match. OH! And there are no ridiculous anachronisms: no recessed lighting; no heated towel racks; no mauve wallpaper trim. THIS IS A CABIN IN THE ADIRONDACKS. Did I mention that? If what you want from an "Adirondack vacation" are the "all mod cons" of a townhouse bordering the golf course, then this definitely ain't the place for you. But if the price and sterility of a Lake Placid condo is not your thing, then look no further because you just found Nirvana AND Utopia AND Heaven on 40 acres. You bring the chocolates.

C'MON! IT'LL BE FUN! You probably won't die, and you'll feel like you actually went someplace on vacation.

SOME RECENT, EXCLAMATION-FILLED TENANT TESTIMONIALS:

JEFF from Oswego, NY:
"Our stay was great! Thanks so much for everything you did for me, especially how quickly you were able to get us into your cabin. The place is beautiful! I like how removed it is from Lake 'Plastic' and Keene Valley. The views were spectacular, and I think we even saw a coyote or wolf in the meadow our first day there. My wife was so surprised. I had her convinced we were going camping in a tent, and when we got to your cabin, she was quite confused. She was literally speechless for the first hour or so, with the exception of, 'Are you serious? I can't believe this.' We loved the decor as well as the Adirondack reading. We are convinced your cabin would be a great place to stay again and again. Your rates were incredibly fair, and thanks again for that. And thanks for the security deposit. In the past I have had some sketchy vacation landlords really sock me with 'cleaning fees.' I'm happy you weren't one of them."

ADAM from Baldwin, NY:
"The camp was probably the nicest vacation place I can remember! You found one of the best spots in the region."

JENNIFER from Massachusetts:
"Long live 'Liberty! Acres!!!!!' We loved the cabin, tucked away in the heart of the mountains. We explored, built fires, roasted marshmallows, rocked in the hammock, slept on the porch, climbed our favorite peaks, hopped rocks on the Boquet River, ate pizza in Lake Placid, swam at Split Rock, ate ice cream at Noonmark Diner. My kids and husband 'sun-setted' on Jay Peak across the street and watched as the last, rosy light withdrew from darkening clouds and gilded every contour as night claimed the world. My favorite thing was sitting in an 'Adirondack chair' on the deck, absorbing the peace and beauty - the gorgeous view across the meadow early in the morning, and later in the heat of the day, and later as the sun went down. We loved the cabin - tucked away in the mountains, yet close to anything we wanted to do. Our week felt like a piece of Paradise that we had stumbled across and seemed to own."

JOHN & NOLA from Australia:
"We were totally taken by our stay! We absolutely loved it! I can't imagine a better place to stay in the Adirondacks."

SOPHIE & JUSTIN from Montreal ("regular Canadian tenants that are delighted!"):
"Best start for summer! Thanks again for giving us the opportunity to stay at your cabin. As every stay we were pampered by the surrounding nature! The site is still as enchanting and peaceful, and the cabin so rallying! Each season is full of surprises, and now we can say we have tried many! Wild strawberries at the end of spring, blueberries and mushrooms during summer, fireflies at night, beautiful Ausable River down the hill (best swimming/playing area our kids ever had!), mushrooms again during fall, cross-country skiing directly from the cabin during winter, stars, stars, stars all year round! And after all these discoveries and activities, what a pleasure to go back to the cozy ambiance of this cabin, in front of a fire playing games or having a grilled marshmallow. As you very well describe, we feel alone and surrounded by nature. And it's true: the view 'kills' you. No doubt we will continue to come!"

CHRIS from Ohio:
"Your place and price was a real deal and so comfortable and enjoyable. Can't say enough good things to describe our experience there!"

RUBEN from Plattsburgh, NY:
"I appreciate your working with me in making our 23rd anniversary our best ever."

REBECCA from Toms River, NJ:
"We have stayed at the cabin a couple of times now, both in winter and summer, and we absolutely love it! There's so much to do in the area no matter the time of year, and we did everything from a horse-drawn sleigh ride to renting a boat for the day. It's only 20 minutes from Lake Placid, and we went there several times. The view from the famous "Whiskey Sipping Deck" is INCREDIBLE! And the wrap-around porch makes it even more enjoyable. The kids made s'mores around the fire pit, and there was all that land for them to run around and play. Whether one is looking for a romantic getaway or a fun family vacation, THIS IS THE PLACE!

MICHELLE from Texas:
"It was just as you described - just like home; comfortable. The setting is perfect: private and absolutely beautiful!"

JOSEPHINE from Tarrytown, NY:
"We had an amazing time--the place was absolutely perfect for our two families. I picked lots of delicious blackberries, the children played in the pine grove, we had fires in the fire circle and cooked hot dogs and s'mores, everyone took lovely naps, and we grilled on the BBQ. We also found great places to swim and hike in the area, including Jay Mountain just down the road as you mentioned. All in all we were thrilled and dream about coming back already."

KIRK & KAREN from Avon, NY:
"The place was perfect for us. A warm place to dry out and have a few beers after a day of playing in the snow. Thanks!"

COACH ED from Central NJ:
"What's the perfect vacation look like? Quiet and cozy accommodations with a gorgeous view and a nice fire in the fireplace! 40 acres and the surrounding High Peaks Region for some of the best hiking and skiing in the northeast! Lots of space for family fun at a cost that won't break the bank! Liberty Acres was just the right place!"

ZOE & TOM from Buffalo, NY:
"We all had an absolutely wonderful time at the cabin! Thanks for providing us with a cozy, friendly, and lovely place to spend Thanksgiving with family and friends."

WOLFGANG & BIRGIT from Wilmington, DE:
"Our first thought after arriving was, 'Yes! Everything done right! HIGH FIVE!"
