Lake George Region Vacation Rentals — LISTING ID: VR5101

Stage your family in a great home base and retreat for summer and winter. On the lake with a dock and lake views from every room. And nearby down hill skiing and boarding in winter! With a full kitchen, large dining room, two fireplaces, on lake access for boating, cross country skiing, skating and ice fishing, and year round comfort, Rivendell is perfect for a whole family get away.

"Rivendell" is a breathtaking, landmark house on Lake George, perched upon its own secluded three acre peninsula named Taft Point. The home's wonderful, multi-windowed living room sits as if an island on the lake and is adjoined by a marvelous dining room for twelve. Rivendell's fully-equipped kitchen with its butcher block island and country bench is terrific for fun meal preparation. There are five bedrooms, in three distinct wings, and each room in the house looks out on the lake. A southern facing screened porch, two large open terraces and a lakeside gazebo provide a venue and unique view for each part of your day. Rivendell is an idyllic home, just right for a family gathering or reunion.

During the Winter Ski Season, enjoy the outdoor excitement and the peace of winters at Rivendell. The nearest ski slope is within forty-five minutes in Glens Falls New York, and Killington and Pico ski areas in Vermont are an easy one hour drive away. Gentle blankets of snow over our country road or the frozen lake make for great cross-country skiing. Two fireplaces, the hot tub on the screened in porch, sledding, walks and winter relaxation all make for an ideal opportunity to have a magical family retreat at Rivendell.

Summer activities include all water sports, jumping from the shoreline rocks, picnics and long walks into Huletts Landing. There you will find a county beach, tennis courts, small nine-hole golf course, marina and general store for essentials.

We are delighted to able to share our lake home with those who seek the peace, enchantment, and excitement of the Adirondacks, and their crown jewel, Lake George!

"[Rivendell] was perfect, whether you liked food, or sleep, or work, or storytelling, or singing, or just sitting and thinking best, or a pleasant mixture of them all." J.R.R. Tolkien in "The Hobbit"

Some details on what there is to do:

Water sports: Launch your boat at Huletts Marina just up the road. Ski in the sheltered waters behind the lake's points, and islands. You can rent boats at Snug Harbor South Marina just across the lake. Get licenses and all your fishing needs at Tom's Tackle Shop located at Snug Harbor South Marina. Right next door, shop for majestic vintage wooden boats at Morgan's Marina, the home of the Hacker-Craft Company. (Please, no jet skis.)

Outdoor activities: Access the nearby Black Mountain Loop for hiking on a mountain trail ranked one of the Nation's 100 best at trails.com. Camping is possible on the lake's many islands and can be arranged at lakegeorge-vacations.com/lake_ george_ island_camping.htm. This link also will guide you to listings of all sorts of lake activities and locations, including the restaurants, tours and attractions that can be visited up and down the lake's 32 miles.

Winter sports: Ski at West Mountain (45 minutes), Pico Peak (60 minutes), and Killington (70 minutes) and Gore Mountain (75 minutes). For cross-country skiing, glide along the road as the snow is falling. The Golf course has ski-able snow almost all winter, and in nearby Glens Falls (50 minutes) are fantastic park trails that are groomed when there is enough natural snow fall. Of course the major resorts have Nordic parks as well, but we like it best just going from the house. Nothing beats skiing, skating and walking on the solidly frozen lake for mile after gorgeous mile!

Nearby: Just over the mountain, twenty minutes away, are groceries, and some great restaurants in a little bit of small town America, Whitehall, NY. Further into Vermont on Route Four, you will find Pattie's Patch, a delightful vegetable market with the best home made pies. Just past, in Fairhaven, Vermont is one of the world's most extraordinary restaurants, the Fairhaven Inn. There, the lovely Greek owners will treat you to delicious relishes, world class hors d'oeuvres and the finest lamb, seafood and steak dinners imaginable.
