Off the beaten path . . . this quiet non-smoking hilltop home is adorned by flower gardens, has a large side yard with a propane grill and picnic table, and overlooks the mountains and historic village of Saranac Lake. Pure mountain air and the noted healing powers of the Adirondack State Park have drawn people to Saranac Lake for over a century. Visitors today find refuge from the pressures of city living and savor a slower pace of life and the beauty of nature.
This charming retreat is dec …orated with knotty pine walls and large picture windows that provide terrific views of the woodlands surrounding the property. One of the most unique features of the home is the screened front porch. Here you can spend a lazy afternoon sipping tea, reading, or watching wildlife (Deer, Chipmunks, Squirrels, and humming birds) from the comfort of two original, antique Adirondack "Cure" chairs.
On the main level, a spacious air conditioned great room with new wall-to-wall carpeting and a George Jacques dining table and chairs provide the perfect setting for sharing meals, games and conversation with family and friends. The wood-burning brick fireplace in front of the new queen sleeper sofa will warm you after a day of skiing (wood provided). Enjoy a cup of hot chocolate by the fire or catch the latest shows on cable or streaming services on a new flat screen wall-mounted Smart TV. For those opting for "old school" over Netflix and Hulu, DVD's and VCRs can also be rented in the village - we provide the stereo DVD/VCR/CD player.
The Air Conditioned Master Bedroom features a king-sized bed, a large picture window with views of the village below, a new flat screen TV, and a new private tiled bathroom with tiled shower.
There is also a complete bathroom with a full tub off the hall adjacent to the living area.
The fully equipped kitchen has been recently remodeled with granite countertops, flooring, cabinets and appliances.
As you descend the custom-made spiral staircase, you will find two additional bedrooms with window fans. One with ta new queen size bed and the second with two twin beds. Another ceramic-tiled bathroom is off the connecting hall. A full size washer and dryer are also on the lower level.
Saranac Lake provides a central location for your Adirondack adventures. From my home, you are just a few minutes walk from the village center, playground, public beach, shops, grocery store and restaurants. You are also only a short drive to Mt. Pisgah Ski and Tubing Center, the Tupper Lake Ski Center and the beautiful new "Wild Center" offering Live Animals as well as walking tails, tours, and Films. The 1932 and 1980 Winter Olympic Village of Lake Placid is a ten minute drive. Whiteface Mountain, snowmobiling, skiing, mountain climbing, and hiking trails are a short drive or walk. Not to mention close proximity to forty-six of the highest peaks in the Adirondack Park. There are several public boat launches (boat parking available at the house), and a variety of boats can be rented locally. Enjoy canoeing, fishing, water-skiing, sailing and golf.
For those of you who enjoy quaint shops, antiques, fine dining, theatre, outdoor concerts, or pampering at a day spa, these activities are also available in the area. Don't forget the locals' favorite treat - homemade ice cream served at Donnelly's Dairy during the summer months.

About Us: I was born and raised in the house! It is continually updated and improved since it burned right after the '80 Olympics. Everything inside and out has been re-done over the past 7 years. I love the area and believe you will too after visiting.
Why we think you will enjoy staying in Saranac Lake: Saranac Lake is the home of great, reasonably priced restaurants and only 12 minutes to the hustle and bustle of Lake Placid and the Olympic Venues. Hiking mountains and walking trails are available without a car. Free tennis courts and beach and boat launching are within a mile, and a small ski slope with a tow and tubing (Mt. Pisgah) is only a few miles away.
Why our property is special: We provide everything from linens to spices, condiments, coffee and tea and wood for the fireplace and Fire Pit. The kitchen is fully equipped with every pot and pan to small appliance. You can walk to town for your groceries or cross-country ski or snowmobile along the railroad trail to Lake Placid.

“Great stay at the Cook House in Saranac Lake. The house has everything, including provisions. It makes you feel like you are in your own home. There are a few barking dogs in the property below the house that wake up early, but so does the sun in the summer, so we adapted just fine. Hope to return some day. ”

“The house is well appointed with every amenity you could need. Location is an easy walk into town and very convenient to get to stores and restaurants. Although the property is close to neighbors, it is still very private and quiet. The enclosed front porch is an excellent space to enjoy your morning coffee. I would recommend this house to anyone looking to stay in Saranac Lake. ”

“I have stayed in this area before but always in a hotel. I was so excited to stay in a home environment and I was not disappointed. I stayed with a group of friends and we had a grand time. The home is very well appointed and kept extremely clean, modern and attractive. The sleeping and bath layout worked well with our crowd. The kitchen was easy to cook in and provided "more" than the usual rental basics. This rental was a treasure! We would certainly tell other about it and look to return in the future.”

“My family gathered from points south and north for a Thanksgiving holiday in the Adirondacks. Our requirements were a well-equipped kitchen, a dining room table, and space to rest and gather by the fire. All these were perfectly met by this very well-situated little house. The kitchen had every utensil we could dream of needing as well as a small breakfast table where we enjoyed morning coffees and afternoon teas. The living and dining room furniture was comfortable whether for dinner, cards or fire-gazing. Our host was very helpful, providing useful advice before and during our stay. Outside the house, it was a pleasant walk into the village of Saranac Lake and an easy drive to Lake Placid, and we only wish we had more time to take advantage of both communities' wintertime attractions. We are already looking forward to our next visit! ”

“Our stay at this rental cottage was delightful. It is lovely inside, with a large central gathering space where we ate meals, relaxed in front of a cheerful fire in the fireplace, watched TV (a rare occurrence with so much else to do), and planned our next day's activities. The bedrooms were warm and comfortable and the kitchen was perfect for the size of our group (six). The cottage is within walking distance of downtown Saranac Lake, as well as attractions such as the Adirondack Carousel and the short-line train that takes folks from Saranac Lake to Lake Placid. I look forward to staying there again in the future.”

“This cottage is very clean and neat. The kitchen is fully stocked and there are plenty of plates and silverware so you dont have to wash to have clean plates for the next meal. The neighborhood is peaceful yet walkinf distance to the activity in town. As a hiker this was perfect because its close to the Seward Range. I highlr recommend it.”

“The house was cozy and comfy, on the side of a hill which afforded us both a degree of privacy and nice views into the well wooded neighborhood below. Even though there were neighboring houses quite nearby, we did not feel it was intrusive, and from many windows there was complete privacy. You will find everything you need in terms of kitchen and comforts ( towels, blankets, condiments, light bulbs, etc.) The spiral stair to the two twin-bedded bedrooms below are quite narrow and steep (but only about 8-9 feet in height) so it may be difficult for some who are infirm or elderly, and taking luggage up and down a bit tricky. Very close to town and even within walking distance of a few restaurants and sites. House was very cold when we arrived (end of December) so if the thermostat could have been turned up a few hours before our arrival that would have been perfect. The fireplace is warm and bright, can get a bit smoky though in the main living area. TV was great, wifi great - living room area very useful and comfy. The master bedroom very large and en suite bathroom great. The second bathroom on main floor (as is master bedroom suite), so if you are staying in downstairs bedrooms you will have to navigate the spiral. Renting was easy and a pleasure, I would definitely stay here again.”

“The house was exactly what we were looking for! Clean, comfortable and within walking distance to town. The owner was great and easy to work with and everything was exactly as she had said it would be. Will definitely stay there again the next we're up visiting Saranac Lake.”
