Secluded 400 foot waterfront retreat. Fox Grove is a secluded four bedroom year round home with two additional outbuildings located directly on Osgood Lake. I believe Fox Grove Camp is the only completely equipped house rental on Osgood Lake down at the water's edge. There is also a small, gradual descent, sunny, sandy beach for swimming. No need to hike up and down the hill every time to access the water. The property includes a 50 foo …t dock that has good visibility to the beach so it is easy to watch children playing on the beach.
The main house is surrounded by a 75' high hill, 600' away from the main road. Cars going by cannot be heard or seen; access from main highway is excellent. Fox Grove is decorated in the Adirondack style which is indigenous to the area, in some cases unique and one of a kind antiques. All buildings are uniquely woven into the wooded shoreline. There is an antique pink granite fireplace inside as well as an outside fireplace right at water's edge complete with an Adirondack style picnic table. Seasoned wood is supplied for both. There is an outside deck and picnic area. The house is designed to be warm and cozy whether one person or seven people occupy it. The kitchen and bathroom are fully applianced.
The main house consists of two floors connected by an antique staircase. The staircase came from the Keith Theatre (a vaudeville theatre in Boston, it went from the orchestra pit to the stage). The house is completely screened and has electric zoned heat. The first floor is split level where all the common areas are located with magnificent lake level views. All bedrooms are located on the second floor, allowing full use of the house facilities while maintaining the quiet sanctity of the bedrooms. There are three double bedrooms and one single bedroom. The main house directly faces undeveloped forever wild area and is surrounded by thousands of acres of state land.
There is also the point house on martini point which is one of the most charismatic spots on the lake. It sits right at the head of the lake with a direct view down the lake from its deck and swing. Outstanding for sunsets, cocktails, general viewing (great northern lights in season), and occasional overnights for two adults. It has the most unbelievable sunset views over water that you can imagine. There is also a boat house. A 14' canoe is available for use.
Osgood Lake (approximately two square miles) connects to other lakes, ponds, and extensive canoe and guide boat routes by way of three waterways, including the "Osgood River" (outlet of Osgood Lake).
As described by Paul Jamieson in "North Flow Adirondack Canoe Waters", "The Osgood is miniature river.. .one of the most delightful cruising streams in the Adirondacks.. .The Osgood is untouched by development.. .a specimen garden of the North Woods.. .rich in interest to the amateur botanist, geologist, and ornithologist or to any lover of uneven ground and moving water."
Two privately maintained hiking trails and three Adirondack lean-tos are also directly accessible from Osgood Lake. Osgood Lake has been twice described by the N.Y. Times as one of the 10 best spots to fish in New York State.
Fox Grove is conveniently located:
- 1 1/4 miles from President Coolidge's summer white house
- 4 miles from horseback riding
- 5 miles from Adirondack Interpretive Center
- 7 miles from Lake Clear airport
- 9 miles from major hospital
- 10 miles from Saranac Lake
- 19 miles from Lake Placid
- 1 1/2 hours easy drive from Montreal

“The good: amazing location on a gorgeous lake. Very close paddle from house to Osgood River, which is a magical place; paddle a few miles upriver and see water fowl, foliage of all kinds, very special. House has great dock for kayaking, sitting with a cup of coffee, beautiful view. House also has a small gazebo up a trail with porch you can sit on and enjoy more gorgeous views. The not so good: the house and Gazebo were infested with mice. One kitchen cupboard had a pile of mouse droppings in it. Also, the small spiral staircase up to the 2nd floor bedrooms is very tight and definitely not ideal for the very young or old. House full of taxidermy, which is either charming or creepy, depending on your take on that kind of stuff. House is very dark which is sort of relieved by the lighting but not quite. Have to use bottled water for drinking and doing dishes. Kinda got used to it but occasionally a PITA. Personally Id rent again because of the magical location. And the fishing is amazing!! Caught multiple 4-lb+ bass in weeds just to the right of the house and many other hot spots. And mice dont bug me. My wife Not so much. ”

“This renter ( as well as all others) was advised to any possible situations, including the ones that he commented on, before he chose to rent. 2023 was an exceptional bad year for critters and bad weather for almost everyone! Where I am located is considered a wilderness area along with all the usual weather variations and critter visitations. As I stated before, 2023 was an exceptional bad summer for both. This was the only negative review that I received in over 38 years of renting.”

“Fox Grove was a beautiful place. Right on the lake, with a little beach which made it easy and comfortable to launch our canoe and kayak. Also a great place to swim. Very private, and we saw no motor boats the entire week we were there. The house itself is lovingly filled with antiques and beautiful lamps made by the talented owner. The kitchen was supplied with all the necessities. The spiral staircase, though very special and historic, might bedifficult to navigate for some. Paddling was lovely and we were so lucky to often see a loon family; a few times the babies riding on the mama loons back. Not far from Fox Grove high in a tree is an eagles nest. My husband and daughter were lucky to have an eagle sighting one day. Highly recommend a visit to Fox Grove!”

“We had a wonderful stay at Fox Grove! The property is very private and right on the lake, with both a small sandy beach (great for kids) and a wonderful dock for lounging, fishing, and sunset viewing. Osgood Pond is a treasure-- quiet, picturesque, well-situated for easy access to nearby hikes, close to Saranac Lake for convenience. The house itself is very comfortable and well-appointed, including new appliances in the kitchen (and everything you need for meal prep), a large dining area, and a living room and deck with great views. We also enjoyed the outdoor fire pit/grill, which is perfect for cookouts or s'mores. Fox Grove has everything you could want in an Adirondack vacation. ”

“If you're looking for a once-in-a-lifetime, unique "camp" in the Adirondacks, this is the place. Set on a very quiet Osgood Pond, the property is perfect with plenty of shade for hot summer days and a nice beach area for swimming. The lake is very quiet with almost no motor boat traffic. Great paddling and fishing. We intended to hit lakes and ponds in the area, but ended up just staying right on the pond as we had tremendous bass and pike fishing. Beautiful paddling and sunsets. The pics on the site don't lie. There is lots of taxidermy bu the style of the house and decor adds to the charm. There is some really incredible art and design to feast the eyes on as well. We enjoyed ourselves immensely. It was a back to basics kind of vacation, the way the Adirondacks were meant to be. There is a full kitchen but we cooked over the open fire, lakeside grill multiple nights. Easy access to Saranac Lake village and Lake Placid. But it feels like you are in a different world and time when you set foot at Fox Grove Camp :) Thanks, Paul!”

“Thanks for two weeks of rustic comfort and relaxation. The house is just a few steps from the water, with a nice, shallow beach and convenient dock over the lake, a lovely place from which to watch the sunset. There is a nice outdoor porch overlooking the lake. The lake has resident loons and bald eagles, and there is excellent paddling on the lake itself, and on the beautiful streams that feed and drain it.. As the prior comment mentioned, the house has taxidermy everywhere, with a wide assortment of stuffed mammals and birds, sort of like being in an old-style natural history museum. The kitchen is complete and has a very nice set of dishes and flatware. The house is in a lovely, relatively less traveled part of the Adirondacks, well worth visiting.”

“A unique and wonderful place; straightforward in appearance on the outside but walk through the door and you're transported to a very cool and interesting antique and collectible shop, creatively curated by the owner, Paul. It's cozy, with adequate cooking, eating and lounging areas, and you're never alone, surrounded by taxidermy everywhere. The beach is terrific, shallow and sandy enough for wading and splashing, but deep enough for swimming off the end of the dock. Good fishing too. Very easy access for our fleet of kayaks and some great places to explore on Osgood Pond. It;s a great place, very secluded and peaceful. We have stayed at many placed in the Adirondacks but we heard and saw more loon activity than anywhere we've been, some very up close while kayaking. Cell phone service is spotty, particularly with AT&T, but it's what you expect up there. We would certainly go back.”

“Imagine a forested retreat dripping with Adirondack history. Imagine total privacy. Imagine a truly unique wood cabin glowing with vintage stained glass lamps and stuffed full of paintings, antiques and funky vintage artefacts from another time. Imagine staying on a lake where canoes outnumber motorboats. Imagine a lake where loons outnumber the canoes. Imagine a place so bewitching that it changes you just by being there...where your troubles melt away, time unwinds and relaxes, and everyday is full of promise....Should I head out in the canoe and float down Osgoode River, should I hike one of the nearby High Peaks or should I just stay home and relax on the dock in the sunshine? Our favourite thing: making a fire on the edge of the pond and watching the long, slow play of colours across water and sky at sunset. And if all this isn't enough, imagine a "treehouse" perched high above the lake, surrounded by trees swaying in the wind...perfect for meditation, reading, writing or sipping a glass of wine and savouring the perfect ending to a perfect day. And all this is possible because Fox Grove is literally Heaven on Earth....We try to make it back every year, because it's such a special place.”

“Our family has just returned from a fantastic week at Fox Grove, and we couldn't have had a better time. When I started looking for a lake rental up near Paul Smiths, Fox Grove jumped out immediately as the sort of place our family would enjoy. And, after a week there, I can report that the location, and the house are better than advertised. The house is situated on Osgood Pond in such a way that feels very secluded and isolated. There are a few other docks on that stretch of pond, but it nonetheless feels like you have the place to yourself. After driving past plenty of other "busy" lakes along the way up it was great to arrive at Fox Grove. The furnishings in the house are very comfortable and the kitchen and bedrooms are well appointed and easy to live in and then clean before you leave. And the owner is great as well. Definitely ask him for ideas on local places to hike, canoe, eat and drink etc. We checked out several local spots on his recommendation and his ideas were right on! Definitely a great week. We look forward to getting back at some point in the future.”

“My family and I had the pleasure of staying at Fox Grove for a week this past summer. It was our first visit to the Adirondacks, and we couldn't have been happier with our stay. Paul was there to greet us when we arrived, providing a thorough tour of the cabin, the grounds, and some tips for local eating and fishing. Let me start with the cabin and its furnishings: a feast for the eyes! The care and curation of Paul's collections truly made the space one of the most unique and memorable we have encountered. The cabin is ideally situated in the woods right on Osgood Pond, with beautiful views of the water, sunsets, and Paul's garden. Martini Point was a special treat! We had numerous camp fires at the pit near the water, complete with cooking grate and chairs. Star-gazing is prime, especially on the dock at night. We fished both off the dock and in the pond (we rented a motor boat), and caught numerous largemouth and smallmouth bass, as well as sunfish, carp and perch. Paul was very helpful in suggesting boat rental information, and even helped us maneuver the 21 foot trailer at the boat launch and into a parking spot on the property afterwards! We took advantage of the nearby privately maintained hiking trails (gorgeous!) as well as completed a fun hike up nearby Mt. Jo (highly recommend). With day trips to Lake Placid, nights out in Saranac,, and a guided 8 mi. kayaking tour of Upper St. Regis and Spitfire lakes and the great camps that occupy their shorelines, we kept very busy! We learned a lot about the rich cultural and natural history of the regoion. However, some of our most treasured times were spent in the cabin, enjoying Paul's memorabilia, antiques and artwork, as well as the solitude of the grounds. We left the cabin when our rental period was over and drove to Montreal, where we spent one night. It was a great way to end our vacation (only 1.5 hours from Fox Grove). Our trip was a special one, and we cannot wait to return one day! Thank you Paul! ”

“We stayed at Fox Grove for a week this fall and loved the camp and the location. The house is cozy and very campy with antique lamps and taxidermy. The lake frontage couldn't be nicer with a long dock, privacy, great views and a fire pit. The bedrooms are accessed by a spiral stair case which is attractive but may pose difficulties for those who are less than spry. This is a great location for outdoor activities. Lots of excellent kayaking and fishing and hundreds of miles of walking trails.”

“ We stayed for July fourth week this year and it is now a very special and memorable week to us. So many activities from swimming and jumping off the dock, to fishing with the mussels from the lake as bait, canoeing up the and down the streams while getting gorgeous pictures and video of loons and an American bald eagle. The kids caught a nice sized bass and we cooked it up right on the beach using the outdoor fire pit then finishing the day watching the sunset from the point house on top of the hill over looking the lake. We will definitely be returning next year :)”

“We have been renting places in the ADK since 1997. We try to find a place on a lake for our family of 7 for a week in the summer that fits our price range. After we recently stayed at Fox Grove, we all agreed this was the best place on water's edge that we have ever stayed at - great dock, sandy beach, clear/not weedy for swimming, and the cabin only feet away. To top it off, the sunsets are beautiful. The owner is very helpful, and we so appreciated our stay.”

“Luxury home with close proximity to the water and dock, the beach, the outside fire place and picnic table. House is outfitted with all amenities. It reminded us of a Great Camp, but smaller - the way the buildings and property were laid out. There is a 60' hill that encircles the buildings from behind which ads to the already very private nature of Fox Grove. Beach area was bright and cheery with good water quality. We especially enjoyed the good fishing. A fun place in good weather or bad.”

“We can't say enough about the camp, the location or the owner -Paul was a great host, he was close by if you needed something, but you never felt that he was around. Our family loved Osgood Pond. The home was charismatic, the location peaceful and it was just the perfect place to relax and enjoy our time as a family. It was the best week of the year for us. We hope to return”

“This was our first trip to Osgood Pond in the U.S from France. We were a little apprehensive as to how it would be as a vacation destination. Friends in Switzerland had recommended it. The main building sits on a nice lawn steps from the lake, beach and dock. It was a beautiful area to relax and plan our activities. The home was tastefully furnished with antiques native to the Adirondacks, it almost seemed like a museum. All the bedrooms were on the second floor, which allowed everybody to nicely maintain their own schedule. Wonderful views were exhibited from everywhere on the property. Sunset cocktails up at Martini Point were spectacular to say the least. The owner was professional, friendly and very helpful. We plan to return. ”

“Fox Grove is an incredibly magical property nestled into the woods boasting perfect views over Osgood Pond. From the fire pit outside, to the authentic Adirondack decor inside, my friends and I loved our time here. The location is breathtaking and ideal for anyone wishing to get away to peace and calm and incredible natural beauty. Martini Point, a short walk up from the main house was a highlight, as was the dock with its bench looking out across the pond, and the wood fire in the fireplace at night. We canoed, saw wild beaver, enjoyed the call of the loon, and the pure beauty of the surroundings. It was difficult to leave and I look forward to returning sometime soon!”
