A well maintained bit of history, 120-year-old Camp Wauhkin perches above the east shore of Lake Placid, nestled between Whiteface Mountain and the High Peaks. We offer well stocked accommodations for 12-15, a modern kitchen, several eating areas, and private lake access for swimming and canoeing. Camp Wauhkin is perfect for gatherings of friends or multigenerational family reunions. The heart of the house is the huge, two-story living/dining room with massive stone fireplace and original turn …-of-the-century furniture--the epitome of rustic luxury, complete with piano. The spacious porch offers stunning views of the lake and mountains. The screened-in "eating porch" holds ten people, perfect for sunset dinners. Fully-stocked, renovated kitchen provides all appliances, including large stove, fridge, dishwasher, microwave, and charcoal grill. Four bedrooms with queen (1) or two single beds open onto the living room, with full baths between each pair. The master bedroom, with queen sized bed and full bathroom, lies off the eating porch, and a sleeping porch with three single beds looks onto a playroom stocked with art supplies, games, toys and dress ups for all ages. A recently renovated small cottage with queen bed, bathroom and kitchen stands behind the main house. The house is open from Memorial Day through mid September (possibly Columbus day), with reduced fees after Labor day.

Rates

$6615 for 7 night rentals ($900/night plus $315 tax)) in the high season (July through fourth week in August). Groups wanting more than 1 week may request discount. Five night weekday rentals are possible.
Reduced to $750/night Plus 5% tax) (7 day rental) in early June.
Off season: September rates are negotiable (400-650/night plus tax), depending on size of group and number of nights (minimum 3 nights; minimum rental off season $1200 plus tax and cleaning fee)
Rental period is from 4 pm on the first day through 10 am of the last day. Cleaning fee additional.

Pet Policy: No pets without special discussion. Family members with allergies
Smoking Policy: No smoking anywhere on property. Violation will automatically lead to loss of half of security deposit. Many family members allergic.
Cleaning Policy: Each guest family is responsible for leaving the house by 10 am on the day of departure. Trash should be put out back for pick up, furniture back in original positions. There are a washer and dryer on site for the linens and towels. It is ok to leave food in the kitchen. The camp hires a professional cleaner to come in after guests leave at a fixed rate of $250. This amount is deducted from the security deposit before it is returned.
Linen Policy: The house is fully stocked with sheets, blankets, comforters, pillows and towels. However, people with allergies may want to bring their own comforters and covers for mattresses and pillows, as some of the comforters are filled with down.
Security Deposit Information: $1000 payable by personal check, due 12 weeks prior to start of agreed upon rental. If tenant cancels rental within a month of start of rental, security deposit is not returned. If the camp is undamaged, it will be returned, less the cleaning fee, within a month of departure.

Meet the Owner(s)

About Us: The ownership of the camp is shared among three families, all grandchildren of the original owners. We live between Boston and Washington, DC. The house reflects our varied interests, with games, puzzles, wifi, canoes, hiking equipment, and a piano. Julia Frank, in Silver Spring, MD. manages the rental contracts and other camp business.

Why we think you will enjoy staying in Lake Placid: From Camp Waukin enjoy day hikes in the High Peaks and Johns Brook Lodge area or day trips for canoeing on the Saranac Lakes or the Raquette River. Outings still leave time to lounge on our dock or enjoy evenings in theaters in Saranac Lake or Lake Placid, ice shows in the Olympic arena, and movies in the village. From our secluded aerie, walk to enticing shops, ranging from outlets to high end boutiques. We are a mile from the Ironman start; two miles from the horseshoe and lacrosse fields

Why our property is special: Camp Wauhkin gives guests the feel of living in an historic setting, comfortably updated over the years. It boasts a modern kitchen, excellent beds, many bathrooms and its own boathouse and dock on Lake Placid proper. Family groups quickly feel at home, with plenty of privacy and plenty of things to do together, all in a setting of incomparable natural beauty.
