Camp Lucky offers a private retreat on Rainbow Lake, on an acre of land with 207 feet of pristine lakefront. The fully equipped kitchen opens onto the cozy living room with a fireplace. This in turn leads to a lovely screened in porch, which invites you to relax with a book, enjoy a meal or take in the view. From the porch, with a table that expands to seat 12, you will look across the lake to 'forever wild' lands. There are large comfortable couches and a chair to take naps or read a book. Ther …e are two bedrooms - one Queen and one Full on the main level, with two more bedrooms - a king and a room with a twin and twin bunk beds on the lower level. Additionally on the lower level is a den with another fireplace and a full size futon/couch. There is a full bathroom on each level plus an outdoor shower.
Over the boathouse there is a sun filled great room with a table tennis table, couches and a full day bed. The room opens onto a deck out over the water, the perfect site for watching the birds over the lake in the morning or the sunset over the lake in the evening. There is a nice dock to swim from or to do some fishing. There are two floating docks in the lake. The boathouse has 2 canoes, 3 kayaks and 2 SUPs with life jackets (9 children and 11 adults), and fishing gear. There is even a "princess seat" so someone can relax comfortably in the canoe while being paddled through the many beautiful coves and waterways of Rainbow Lake.
Although perfectly secluded, the amenities of Saranac Lake are just 11 miles down the road, and Lake Placid and Tupper Lake are within a short drive. The region offers wonderful opportunities for hiking in the High Peaks, kayaking and canoeing the famous waterways of the Adirondacks and many other activities.

“We had a lovely stay at Camp Lucky and really enjoyed their large screened in porch and beautiful views of the lake from the porch. The new kitchen was very well stocked with everything needed for cooking. The dock and deck at the lake had wonderful views also and the sunsets were amazing. We saw 3 loons on a daily basis and they got quite close to the dock. Our dogs loved swimming in the lake and there was an easy sandy bottom entry to the lake that would be great for kids.”

“We thoroughly enjoyed our week at Camp Lucky. Our favorite place was the screened-in porch where we were able to eat every meal and enjoy the resident loons on the lake. (We were serenaded with calls one afternoon for a full five minutes; truly glorious!) The kitchen is very well-appointed. If you need it, it's there! From bowls and knives to flour and oils. The home was immaculately clean which was appreciated, especially during these lingering days of the pandemic. Our only issues were relatively minor. There were no tools to clean the ash from the fireplace, so we limited ourselves to fires on only three days. The second issue was the handrail on the stairs from the lower level to the upper level which was not very supportive of those who are older and rely on the handrail for balance. That said, we are hoping to return to Camp Lucky next year and bring a few more friends with us. Thank you for allowing us to enjoy your beautiful home in this serene and lovely location!”

“We had a wonderful stay at Camp Lucky!!It is an ideal location for stunning views. It is clean and comfortable and the owners made it feel like home!!The absolutely stunning screened in porch gave us a birds eye view of the lake and scenery!Very quiet and restful. The weather was cool but on warmer days we enjoyed sitting down on the dock for wine and appetizers and wading in the pristine lake.Loved our stay!!!”

“We rented Camp Lucky for 2 weeks in September and really enjoyed our stay. The camp was clean when we arrived and had all the supplies and equipment one would need. We especially appreciated having the two canoes and kayaks at our disposal, as Rainbow Lake is a great place for paddling. It was great having the second living area downstairs and that beautiful back porch became our routine hang-out place. Frank was very responsive to any questions, making this a very easy rental experience. Would highly recommend this camp as a rental for your family. ”

“Camp Lucky is a little slice of heaven. My family stayed here for three weeks in June 2020 and we wish we could have stay even longer! The house is great, but the huge screened in porch is amazing! We ate all of our meals at the huge dining room table and we did lots of reading and even some work while sitting on the porch enjoying the weather and lake view. There are four bedrooms total with two full baths (plus an outdoor shower). One of the rooms is great for kids - bunk beds with a twin. The boathouse is well stocked with lake gear, including canoes, kayaks, and floats. The second story of the boathouse is a playroom (with a ping pong table), which my kids really enjoyed. There is so much to explore outdoors with close by hikes and nature walks. The kids couldn't get enough of the lake even on colder days. There is a little area to wade in and it's pretty shallow by the dock so was great for our younger kids (2, 5, 7). The property has neighbors (neither is very close) on either side but no one across the lake and is very private and quiet. The house/property were also great and very enjoyable for our outdoorsy dog. Communication with the owners was great. We felt very much at home on Rainbow Lake. This was our first time visiting the Adirondacks and it will certainly not be our last. I hope that staying at Camp Lucky is an annual tradition for our family! ”

“Our family of 4 adults and 5 teenagers had a great week at Camp Lucky. We have vacationed in the Adirondacks for almost 20 years and we love the Rainbow Lake location. We especially enjoyed the screened in porch for eating, napping, reading, loon, eagle and beaver watching and playing games. There are plenty of canoes, kayaks and stand up paddle boards to accommodate all interests from fishing to exploring the lake and adjacent waterways. The beds were comfortable and the house was clean. ”

“We absolutely loved our vacation at Camp Lucky! We are a family of 5 with three kids (ages 8, 6 and 3) and a Border Collie. It is the perfect place if you like this part of the Adirondacks. From the huge screened in dining area, to the large fire pit, to the boat house loaded with everything you need for every water sport imaginable (and a ping pong table on the second floor!) - it is all amazing, and we could not have been happier. As an added bonus, the owners are super cool and accommodating. We are definitely going back. This place is a treasure. ”

“My husband and I spent our honeymoon at Camp Lucky. What an incredible place! Everything was exactly as described. We enjoyed watching the loons, kayaking, and hanging out on the giant screen porch every day. We hope to be back someday soon!”

“Absolutely special place on the lake. Lots of wildlife i.e.snapping turtle, fox and loons and a variety of birds. Good hiking including Whiteface and Ampersand. Enjoyed canoeing, kayaking and especially paddle board on Rainbow Lake as well as a visit to Lake Placid with a walk around Mirror Lake and a boat tour on Lake Placid. Enjoyed the indoor fireplace one evening but outdoor fire pit several nights. Ping Pong tournament in the upper level of the boathouse was great fun. Fly fishing from the pier was enjoyed by my husband, but even more by Cali, our family dog. Third Thursday in the summer was fun with good music, choice of foods and local art. Enjoyed a few breakfasts at PackABasket and grilled in a few times with choice of food markets nearby.”

“Our group stayed at Camp Lucky for a long weekend of fishing. The description of the camp and the pictures are very accurate. Our group felt that the best feature of the camp was the large screened in porch that over looks the lake. We had every meal on the porch and enjoyed both the view and sitting around the table or on the couches talking. The beds were comfortable, the bathrooms were clean and the kitchen had everything we needed to cook. We put our boat right in the boat house (not sure if this is available later in the season when the owners boat is in the water) which was a great convenience. There are great local hikes that some of our group enjoyed. Only negative, if you are traveling as a group, the parking is a little limited, the owner said four cars and that really is the max. It is a great camp that is away from it all on a beautiful and private lake, with very limited boat traffic. Be sure to stock up on supplies before you arrive, it's a good 20 minutes or so to Saranac Lake if you need something. The price is a good value, we enjoyed our stay and hope to return in the future. ”

“We very much enjoyed our stay at Camp Lucky. It reminded us of my in-laws former camp on a lake in Maine. The view over the lake is beautiful, the bedrooms comfortable, the kitchen functional, and the area quiet. The weather was crisp and cool but a couple of evenings it was warm enough to eat on the deck. We needed to get to Potsdam, Tupper Lake, and the High Peaks area also and found that the drive was an hour or less or all those places. Five adults canoed up the lake one afternoon even though there were not enough adult-sized paddles or life preservers. ”

“We feel so lucky to have discovered Camp Lucky! The Camp itself was wonderful, with a beautiful view, and a peaceful quiet setting. As other reviews mention, the screen porch really is wonderful. It's big enough to eat, sit, relax, and affords a fantastic view where you can listen to the loons, watch the fog on the water in the morning, and watch the sunset in the evening. Although it was mid-September, we had beautiful summer-like weather, and the leaves were close to peak fall colors. The camp is accessible to wonderful hiking and cycling, and we were able to swim every day. There are canoes, kayaks, and SUPs available. The boathouse has a ping pong table, and there is a great fire pit for campfires at night. The location was wonderful for us in that it had an 'away from it all' feeling, very quiet, but was only about 10 miles from Saranac where you could get everything you needed. The owners were very responsive to any questions, and any information you needed was available to make a nice stay. I've been recommending Camp Lucky to family and friends, and would recommend it to anyone! ”

“We found Camp Lucky to be an oasis within the Adirondack region. The location is fantastic and very private. The house is spacious and fully stocked. The rooms are thoughtfully put together. The best part is obviously the huge screened in porch! It provided optimal viewing of the loons and other wildlife that were on the lake directly in front of the house. The boathouse has a plethora of equipment that kept us busy during our stay. We did'nt fish, but boy were they jumping every morning and evening. We were at the house the second week in September and had superb weather, mid 70s every day! Things worth checking out: the VIC at Paul Smiths, The Wild Center (Tupper Lake,) and The Olympic Park (Lake Placid.)”

“No surprises.Well prepared for us. Comfortable, clean and everything worked..plenty of seasoned firewood...canoes, kayaks, etc. Only one thing, out of control of Frank the camps's owner;a neighbor running a chain saw 8:30 in the mornings twice. Oh well...”

“We've been doing family reunions for 40 years in the Adirondacks, and this year decided to splurge for a lakefront cabin - and it turned out to be our most memorable yet. The view across Rainbow Lake is postcard perfect. The boathouse has two kayaks, two canoes and two stand up paddle boards which we used extensively. The daily sighting and sound of loons on the lake was thrilling. The large main floor deck doubles as a screened in dining room, looking out over the lake. Unseasonably cool weather meant fires in the fire pit every evening, with lots of built-in bench seating around the fire. Four bedrooms accommodated the three couples and one teenager in our group in separate bedrooms, with additional bunk beds in the one downstairs bedroom. All in all a great private retreat, with full immersion in the quite, peaceful Rainbow Lake environment. If you like the Adirondacks, you'll find the nearby Wild Center and Paul Smith's College Visitor Interpretive Center very educational and engaging. And of course Donnelly's soft serve ice cream on Rt. 86 is not to be missed - we were nightly patrons. We hope to be back at Rainbow Lake next year!”

“Wow! The best vacation house I've rented in over 20 years. Very private. Very quiet. Great fishing and kayaking/canoeing right on the lake. Other great paddlesports destinations near by. Numerous hikes nearby. The house is beautiful and stocked with everything you need. Beds were exceptionally comfortable. Screened in porch was fantastic. Swimming was great. Couldn't ask for anything more. Will be back!”

“I really don't want to write this review because I don't want anyone else to discover Camp Lucky. What an incredible place! We had the perfect Adirondack lake week. The house is comfortable, with a well stocked kitchen and comfortable beds. The huge screened in porch might be my new favorite place on earth. Rainbow Lake is the perfect size, with very clear and cold water for swimming and just enough places to paddle. SUPs are a huge bonus -- we loved them! We will return every summer that they will have us. Hooray for Camp Lucky!”

“What an incredible Camp to rent and vacation in. The lake is beautiful and the song of the loons each night was such a treat. We were so surprised at how spacious the cabin was... the upstairs living area and the downstairs. Our grandchildren were thrilled with the bunkbeds, we had room a plenty for the "nanas" and all our family members.... who joined us for a day or two and wanted to stay longer! The screened in dining room - was amazing - family dinners with the view of the lake, a well stocked kitchen with all kinds of appliances. The boathouse with ping pong table for tournaments and sitting out on the lake on the dock fishing - who could ask for more? We had a campfire every night, kayaked and canoed, hiked some great mountains (loon lake mountain and Haystack in Saranac), enjoyed some amazing kayaks throughout rainbow and into various waterways beyond. Fishing was superb! Ice Cream at Donnelly's a must - can't wait for the rope swing into the lake. Everything made this vacation the best ever. Camp Lucky - you rock! I hope we can come back again and spend more time in your cabin retreat. - The Manquens”

“Perfect for our family with 3 boys ages 10, 8 and 6. They fished and kayaked every moment they could! The lake is beautiful, calm and quiet. My husband and I took the kayaks for a journey down the lake while my in laws watched the boys. The boat house recreation room was another big hit. We played many ping pong tournaments there. It was a comfortable room to hang out in with the family. We also had our evening s'mores at the fire pit. Firewood was provided. The cabin was very clean. It had all we needed. Boys loved the bunk beds! Plenty of games to play and of course ring toss outside under the porch! Linens and laundry room a big plus! The outdoor screened dining area was the setting for all our meals! Beautiful view! We took a few trips away from our little paradise to hike Baker Mountain. Great for the family. My mother and father-in-law did not go. However, they did accompany us to the VIC at Paul Smith college. The hike and the nature center were both very nice. We all enjoyed it. We took a drive up to Lake Placid for a day. The ski jump is amazing to see. There was also a nice little park only a few minutes away from the camp where we played soccer and could have a picnic. I would highly recommend eating at St. Regis Cafe at Paul Smith College. Make reservations a few days ahead. Very reasonable and the food was excellent. Overall, a wonderful vacation. Thank you to the owners for all their help and recommendations. ”

“Our second year and it was even better. Canoes, kayaks ,pingpong table, and decks were great. But the best is the "tree house" deck off the living room. The owners take good care of their property ...and the property is situated so we think we are alone but we have neighbors if we need them. See you next year! ”

“Beautiful spot! Camp Lucky was a gem on a wonderful lake. We had a great time and really appreciated the well-stocked kitchen, kayaks and canoes and the screened in porch. Rainbow Lake is peaceful and the loons who seem to live on the island just offshore make it a magical place..”

“We just returned from our second stay at Camp Lucky. Last year was our first visit which we enjoyed so much we had to return this summer, too. We have been taking a family vacation in the Adirondacks each summer for many years and we have finally found THE place! The cabin has everything we could possibly want and is always in excellent condition. The owners are delightful to work with. The waterfront area, dock and boathouse are amazing and have all the things one could want for paddling, fishing and enjoying beautiful Rainbow Lake. The deck on the boathouse is especially pleasant in the evening as the sun sets. For our family, one of the best features of the camp is the awesome screened porch where we especially enjoy coming together for family meals while enjoying spectacular views. Playing board games or cards on the porch in the evenings is also something we enjoy. Believe me when I say this camp is appropriately named because if you vacation here, you will truly feel LUCKY! Our family cannot wait to return again next summer. Thanks to the owners for making this piece of perfection available for us to enjoy!”

“The only way to describe Camp Lucky is "Oh My God"! This is a dream-come-true vacation rental. The property has everything you desire and more. It was very clean upon arrival and has beautiful views. The owners were wonderful to deal with. I have been vacationing in the ADK's for over 40 years and this is, by far, the best find ever! For our family, a vacation means getting away from our busy lives and re-connecting, with no neighbors, telephone calls, electronics, etc. (although the wifi was great!) and let me tell you - this is it. So quiet and peaceful. We all (dogs included) enjoyed the dock, swim dock, boats, boat house, outside shower and living arrangements as well as "almost" nightly trips to Donnelly's. The fishing in Rainbow Lake was amazing - lots of Northern Pike. We can't wait to return to make more wonderful family memories! ”

“Once again we have thoroughly enjoyed our vacation at Camp Lucky, the work done on the boat house looks great, loved the railing on the deck of the boathouse. We had some cold and damp weather this trip but got some good use of the fireplaces it's great that you supply plenty of dry wood in the garage. We had a black lab with us who really loved the lake every time he got out back he was running into the lake, we had to start leashing him and walking him down the road to keep him out of lake. Rainbow lake is wonderful for kayaking we love kayaking through the cut and my sister and husband will stay out there for hours and I think they have covered the entire lake. This year they took a ride to Jones pond and put the kayaks in there and and paddled into Osgood pond right over a beaver dam. We got some beautiful pic's from that trip. This is our second year at Camp lucky and do recommend this rental property we hope to be back again next year. ”

“We consider ourselves "lucky" to once again have found a fun treasure for our family summer vacation...this year at Camp Lucky. The home, as presented on the Net, is the real deal. As I wrote in their guest book, the website fails to capture the inviting and comforting atmosphere that the owners have created. Imagine the creature comforts that you most enjoy...you will experience them all with Camp Lucky. The kitchen is well appointed with every cook's dream recipe in mind. Prefer to cook outside...you have three choices! We roasted pork over an open fire! And we made peanut-butter chocolate Smores more than once! The living space is plentiful on both levels. We used the bottom "basement" level living room as a playroom since my grandchildren (3,& 5 years) were early risers. The bedrooms were comfy and easily catered to the seven of us; if we had had more company, we still had additional beds! The dock was our second mainstay and we used the canoes and kayaks daily. While the beach lacked some castle-building sand, it was supplanted by the easy walk in for the children to play in the water. Our five year old caught her first fish! And my son captured young eagles and herons on camera! In the boathouse, the ping-pong table tempted us...my son beat me but we have photos to prove that I was a contender. If you need to buy extras beyond what you initially bring, head to Saranac or Lake Placid (we preferred Lake Placid's choices for groceries, but that had more to do with our comfort zones. As for connecting to the outside world...for the most part, we were able to access what was significant to us. We intentionally avoided the TV because we wanted to truly re-create our time together. I could go on, but I think future renters need to create their own memories of this memorable place. We have! ”

“We found our stay very enjoyable, there was 4 of us and our dog. We had some cold nights and cool mornings and the fireplaces were great. The screened porch is wonderful with the big table and the lighting above the table was really nice. We had a couple of friends from Oxbow lake come up for a bbq one day and they also loved the screened porch. The lake was nice for kayaking, my husband and sister actually spent 6 hours exploring one day and were very excited when they came back and checked the map to figure out where they actually went. We like to try new lakes every year but I think we enjoyed Camp Lucky so much that we will probably break that rule and try and rent it again next year. The only improvement might be the 2nd bedroom on the main floor the bed was very low to the ground be nice if it could be on a frame that stands higher. This camp is on a beautiful spot on the lake, very peaceful. We really enjoyed our visit to Camp Lucky.”

“Camp Lucky is a wonderful camp for two families. We stayed with our two children and our friends who also have two children. There was plenty of room for all 8 of us. The lake is wonderful. The dock area is great and the swimming is very nice. It starts off sandy and shallow and then drops of so you can jump of the floating dock. The children really enjoyed it. The lake is also very quite and beautiful. We enjoyed many kayak and canoe trips with the boats provided and had fun exploring the lake. We enjoyed our meals on the screened in porch and enjoyed playing cards and games every night out there. It is a wonderful camp and the owner was very easy and nice to work with. We are looking forward to returning and enjoying this beautiful site in the ADKS.”

“My two daughters and their families joined us for a delightful week in August at Camp Lucky. We found the house very adequate for our group, especially the porch and dining area overlooking the lake, with a beautiful view as well and a very private feel at the beach area. The kitchen supplies also met our need as did the gas grill. The beds were adequate although queen sized beds in the other two bedrooms would be a huge improvement rather than doubles. The bunkroom worked well for the children, but two bunks would also be an improvement. The children loved the swim facilities and extra plastic kayaks, the floating a dock, and the dock area. The beach area was perfect with a sandy shallow area for my three year old grandchild. They virtually lived down at the waters edge. The outside shower at the house was especially handy for them so they could rinse off before entering the main house. Rainbow lake itself is a gem, quiet, not alot of motor boats or skiers, lots of state land to give you a true Adirondack feel. It is a wonderful place for quiet paddles and observations of loons. Our family had a couple of campfires, wonderful dinners together, and some great hikes up Baker in Saranac and Azure Mountain, both short hikes with great views. We plan to return .”
