If you are searching for the most beautiful site on Lake George, look no further!

Discover historic charm throughout our handmade Adirondack family home, dramatically sited between a steep mountainside and rugged shore. It's a large cabin built in 1888 of native woods. The carpenter in our family has carefully rebuilt the generously sized eat-in kitchen, creating a center cooking island with gas stove, stools, a walk-in pantry, and downstairs bathroom with shower. A sitting area with VT Castings wood stove completes this great family kitchen. The gracious dining room with leafed table looks out on the lake and opens to a covered porch with more intimate dining and cocktail seating. The living room features a piano, comfy sofas and wicker chairs, writing desk and fireplace. The Bibliotheque, a cozy den, is off the living room and is great for rainy day puzzle makers of the family.

Up the winding wooden staircase are two wings, each with its own bathroom and claw-foot tub. Front wing: the master bedroom suite has a queen bed, Franklin stove and attached bath. "The Blue Room" suite has full sleigh bed with organic cotton mattress, extra sleigh bed (single) and a sleeping porch with bunk beds and spectacular view. "The Red Room" is a cozy single with toys and kids' books, attached sleeping porch with single camp bed. Back wing: "Georgie's Room" has a full bed, 3 steps from the bathroom. The White Room has a double bunk bed, also close to the bathroom. All bedrooms have great lake or mountain views. Call us for photos not posted on this site.

In addition to the covered porch, there is a stone deck, and an open air cocktail seating area out on the ledge- best for watching the sun set over the wild Tongue Mt. Range.

Three rustic pine paths lead down to the lake. Snooze in the hammock in the shade of the secluded hemlock grove, with the sound of lapping water by your side. Swimming is great all along our shoreline or bay, with several places to jump off rocks, sunbathe, fish. Kids love the small natural sand beach where many have learned to swim. We encourage you to bring your own kayaks and/or a small motorboat up to 18 ft. to tie at the dock slip.

Rental boats can be delivered to our dock by Snug Harbor South Marina just up the lake at The Hague. Get licenses and all your fishing needs at Tom's Tackle Shop located there. Please, no jet skis or fireworks barges in this quiet and wild setting.

Outdoor activities: Climb Elephant Mountain to access Black Mountain Loop for hiking on a mountain trail ranked one of the Nation's 100 best, at trails.com.

Meet the Owner(s)

About Us: Our family has been coming here for 6 generations, and the house is part of a "Hamlet" settled back when folks came up by steamboat from Lake George Village, and there was no paved road, no electricity or indoor plumbing. We've modernized carefully, with a nod to the past. Every member of the family contributes to the upkeep in any way he/she can. We've all learned so much about nature here; for many, it has profoundly influenced their life's path. Come try us out- soon and often!

Why we think you will enjoy staying in Huletts Landing: Huletts is a small peaceful community in the quietest part of the lake. Kids of all ages walk and bike our dead-end road every day, or paddle to the Landing for ice cream, tennis or golf. For local arts and history, see our Historic Huletts Museum at the old firehouse. 2 churches have active, welcoming congregations. But the biggest draw has always been the clear, drinkable lake, its scenic islands, bays and shoreline- for exploring, paddling, sailing, fishing- it can't be beat!

Why our property is special: Forest Ledge is a hand-made cabin, with beautiful wooden walls and stairs, so there is a certain feeling and warmth about it that families connect to (not just the owners!). Some renters have returned with children and grandchildren every year since we first started taking guests in 1990. The house was built by the Durands- the family of Asher Durand, beloved Hudson River painter who loved this spot- for good reason. Take off your shoes. Leave worries and traffic behind. Listen to the lake!
