Lake George Region Vacation Rentals — LISTING ID: VR5686

If you are searching for the most beautiful site on Lake George, look no further!

Discover historic charm throughout our handmade Adirondack family home, dramatically sited between a steep mountainside and rugged shore. It's a large cabin built in 1888 of native woods. The carpenter in our family has carefully rebuilt the generously sized eat-in kitchen, creating a center cooking island with gas stove, stools, a walk-in pantry, and downstairs bathroom with shower. A sitting area with wood stove completes this great family kitchen. The gracious dining room with leafed table looks out on the lake and opens to a covered porch with more intimate dining and cocktail seating. The living room features a piano, comfy sofas and wicker chairs, writing desk and fireplace. The Bibliotheque, a cozy den, is off the living room and is great for rainy-day puzzle makers of the family.

Up the winding wooden staircase are two wings, each with its own bathroom and claw-foot tub. Front wing: the spacious master bedroom suite has a queen bed, Franklin stove and attached bath. The Blue Room suite has sleigh bed with RV Queen memory foam mattress, extra sleigh bed (single) and a sleeping porch with spectacular view. The Red Room is a cozy single with toys and kids' books, attached sleeping porch with single camp bed. Back wing: Georgie's Room has a full bed, steps from the bathroom. The Green Room has a newish double bed, also close to the bathroom. All 5 bedrooms have bureaus, fans, closets and great lake or mountain views. Call us for photos not posted on this site.

In addition to the covered porch, there is a stone deck, and an open air cocktail seating area out on the ledge- best for watching the sun set over the wild Tongue Mt. Range.

Three rustic pine paths lead down to the lake. Snooze in the hammock in the shade of secluded hemlock grove, with the sound of lapping water by your side. Swimming is great all along our shoreline or bay, with several places to jump off rocks, sunbathe, fish. Kids love the small natural sand beach where many have learned to swim. We encourage you to bring your own kayaks and/or a small motorboat up to 19 ft. to tie at the dock slip.

Rental boats can be delivered to our dock by Snug Harbor South Marina just up the lake at The Hague. Please, no jet skis or fireworks barges in this quiet and wild setting.

Outdoor activities: Climb Elephant Mountain, out our backdoor, to access Black Mountain Loop for hiking on a mountain trail ranked one of the Nation's 100 best, at trails.com.

Meet the Owner(s)

About Us: Our family has been coming here for 6 generations, and the house is part of a quiet hamlet settled back when folks came up the lake by steamboat, when there were no paved roads, no electricity or indoor plumbing. We've modernized carefully, with a nod to the past. Every member of the family contributes to the upkeep in any way they can. Forest Ledge has an older "sibling" up the hill called The Chalet; this can be rented for families too big for one house. The bay is shared by both.

Why we think you will enjoy staying in Huletts Landing: Hulett's is a small peaceful community under Elephant Mountain.. Kids of all ages walk and bike our dead-end road every day, or paddle to the Landing for ice cream, tennis or golf. For local arts and history, see our Historic Hulett's Museum at the old firehouse. 2 churches have active, welcoming congregations. Best of all is the spectacular waterfront, the clear, drinkable lake water, its scenic islands, bays and shoreline- for exploring, paddling, sailing, fishing- an American treasure!

Why our property is special: Forest Ledge is a hand-made cabin, with beautiful wooden walls and stairs, so there is a certain feeling and warmth about it that families connect to (not just the owners!). Some renters have returned with children and grandchildren every year since we first started taking guests in 1990. The house was built by the Durands- the family of Asher Durand, beloved Hudson River painter who cherish this spot- for good reason. Take off your shoes. Leave worries and traffic behind. Listen to the lake
