“My husband, children, and I have been vacationing in the ADK since 1997. We look to stay at a different place each time, and have largely used ADKbyOwner. We have truly enjoyed many wonderful cabins and owners, but this is the first time I heard family actually ask if we could please come back to this one! The place is fantastic, and the owner superb. In particular we loved the sandy beach right on the property, water you could walk into and not have to dive off a dock to access, the big long kitchen table where our family of 10 ate dinners together and and played many games, the common area / open concept that is very inviting to family time, and the cleanliness of the cabin and bathrooms. Additional perks were a really nicely equipped kitchen, beautiful wood floors, screen doors that are well made(!), a master bedroom & its door that did a good job of keeping out the noise of those that wanted to stay up later, and permission to use the owner's kayaks and SUP - a big attraction for my (grown) kids. Topping it off was the classic "Adirondack feel and design" of this home. Thank you so much for renting your place for others to immensely enjoy!”

“What a wonderful week we had at Backnacdack! Everything exceeded our expectations. Even though we had some rainy days, the house was a haven to build puzzles (the kitchen island was perfect for that), listen to the loons, watch the rain from under the awnings. On the sunny days, we basked in the sun on the boathouse deck, kayaked the smooth waters (enough boats for everyone), and hiked at the nearby Paul Smiths VIC. The 3 1/2 baths accommodated everyone (we had 10 guests) and there was plenty of room to escape the crowd if needed. The kitchen was wonderful- everything you could want to cook up some great meals. We had my 80 year old parents with us and they navigated the property with ease. My dad even said, "Let's go ahead and book this again for next year!!"”

“we chose this beautiful home as we wanted to use it as a base camp for 6 mature and seasoned Kayak Gals to explore this part of the upper Saranac Lake ...before we arrived the owner supplied us with written information that made us feel safe and informed...so much storage room for our gear..the brand new kitchen has room to cook and visit and so many utensils and gadgets !!!! IT MADE COOKING FUN..we all had comfortable bedrooms with storage and baths .. the dining area allowed us all to eat and play board games, the upstairs living area has comfortable furniture with a grand view of the lake...the downstairs living room gave space to the gals who wanted to get away from the "chatter" with more sleeping and storage space...the lake is right at your feet with easy put-in for kayaks...we kayaked to Fish Creek Pond and explored the state islands...on the way we past historic and interesting camps and people sunning themselves were friendly to our questions...the deck on the boat house was the place to enjoy cocktails and snacks ....we also kayaked to the quieter NY State Land across the lake and saw deer enjoying the lake water and several bald eagles before you go to this beautiful house read up on Historic Saranac Inn..we walked down to see the remaining white and green cottages and met a neighbor with first hand knowledge of the place...Dinner at the Historic Saranac Hotel did not disappoint, expensive but gourmet with a tour of the building...we disappointed ourselves by being too lazy to go to the Lake Clear Airport Cafe , breakfast in our vast kitchen was too much fun !!! Backnackdack is not easy to spell or say but so easy to enjoy what the Adirondack Mountains are all about, Wild Wilderness but serene and restful......do not hesitate..go for it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

“BackNacDack is a beautiful camp! We loved our stay there. Very well maintained, lot's of amenities inside and out, and a fabulous setting. Great for families. Big open yard for games and activities, a dock w/deep water for boating but also a nice, sandy beach for swimming, particularly for young children. Lot's to do and explore in the area with short drives to Tupper, Saranac, and Lake Placid. Nearby hiking and canoeing opportunities abound. Owners were great to work with and very helpful in planning our trip. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and hope to be back!”

“This is a beautiful, roomie home. 8 of us stayed there very comfortably. We love the interior and exterior of the house and the boat house roof is great. There are lots of boats and a paddle board to enjoy. It was a bit noisy with weed wackers and lawn mowers next door, but that is understandable. My only suggestion would be to reconfigure the bunk beds to a brighter part of the basement as my kids were too scared to sleep there.”
Owner's Response
“So glad you and your family enjoyed the visit. We will consider the move of the bunk beds, or maybe find a way to brighten up that part of the lower level. Thanks for the review.”

“We had a really wonderful and memorable time staying at the "Backnacdack." It's a beautiful and luxurious house in a quiet and scenic spot on Upper Saranac Lake. The house is very well equipped; the owners have thought of everything! Enjoyed gatherings in the Great Room, playing games in the basement, the small private beach, the fire pit by the water, and the nice selection of boats. It was very easy and convenient to deal with the owner, and they provided us with lots of helpful information about the house and area. If coming back to the Adirondacks, I'd stay here again in a heartbeat.”

“We loved it. Weve been coming to the area for a decade and renting various properties in search of the perfect spot for our group. This property was wonderful for our kids and the adults. Thanks to the upper deck, we spent more time reading and relaxing than any other vacation I can remember. The living area, with beautiful woodwork, tall ceilings and gorgeous dining setting was ideal for big breakfasts and large family dinners each night, followed by card games. We took beautiful photos inside and out and will cherish the group shot taken from the second floor down onto the dining table. Perfect outdoor set up for active kids, who were on the beach, in the water, and playing kickball in the yard from sun up to sun down. The kids also enjoyed the family area, playing games several evenings on the big coffee table. The garage was a good staging area for our equipment and supplies. This property is less remote than other properties weve rented, but there is benefit to having easy access to the boat launch and main roads for food shopping and daily excursions, plus our oldest made a trip to the ER on our last night (very minor injury as a result of shenanigans), and we were grateful to get there in 20 minutes. Well maintained property, beautiful interior and layout with conscientious owners, which we appreciate very much! The only minus for us was the master bath on the main floor, which, due to the vessel sink, was impossible for the children to use. The second floor bathroom was spacious, with a tub, better for children ten and under. All in all, thank you for having us! You'll have no problem keeping this gem rented. ”

“ We arrived to an impeccably clean home with tasteful and comfortable furnishings. The breathtaking view of the lake was the perfect way to start our weekend. The next day we began our morning with coffee on the lovely wrap around deck overlooking beautiful Lake Saranac. We proceeded down to the boat house to enjoy a peaceful ride around the lake on one of the kayaks available. The afternoon was spent strolling through the quaint village of Lake Placid. This home has a full service kitchen with all the amenities to create everything from a gourmet dinner to simple snacks. Should you prefer one may enjoy the many available restaurants in the area. This property is perfect for family gatherings, reunions or simply an opportunity to get away and renew one's spirit. Truly a five star property! ”

“I had the opportunity to stay at this property for a gorgeous late summer visit to the Adirondacks. We found it to be spacious, clean, well maintained and especially loved the available watercraft to enjoy a kayak ride in the lake. Peaceful and serene are words that come to mind as we spent time soaking in the area. Coffee on the porch overlooking the lake was a real treat. A short ride to Lake Placid added to the fun of the trip! Thank you for sharing your property!”

“My wife, two small kids and I stayed at BackNacDack for two weeks, and it was great in every way. Clean, well equipped, fifteen to twenty minutes from the town of Saranac Lake and from Donnelly's Ice Cream. Twenty minutes from the Wild Center, which everyone should visit. The kids had a blast on the little beach in front of the house. There were two canoes, two kayaks and a paddleboard that came with the house, and the protected bay the house was on was perfect for paddling around. Great view, stunning sunsets. Everything works as it should. I've never heard so many loons in my life. The owners were very responsive to the few questions we had. Great place to stay. We'd stay there again in a heartbeat. One additional bonus, and I hope it's not too gross. We've stayed at other houses in the Adirondacks that have had little beaches or lawns that slope down to the water. At all the others, geese are a persistent problem. Geese can't fly with full stomachs, so they digest rapidly and poop as they eat. Their scat is big, like that of a small dog. That means that if geese come and visit your lawn for even just ten minutes, you could spend a half hour cleaning up goose poop, and they can come by to eat three or four times a day in some places. It's a real drag if you have little kids just dying to play by the water. At BackNacDack, down between the beach and the lawn, they have some wooden railroad ties topped with short garden fencing that are easy for people (even toddlers) to step over, but not for geese. During our two weeks, many geese swam up to the tempting lawn, then were discouraged by the beams/fencing, and followed the path of least resistance to neighboring lawns. This might sound ridiculous if you've never encountered this problem, but if you have, you know it is a BIG DEAL to have to rid a lawn/beach of goose poop two or three times a day. Great bonus to an excellent house. And I apologize if that was too gross.”

“This was our first time staying on upper lake Saranac in this great house. It met all our expectations . The description of the house and amenities is totally accurate. The owner responded quickly to any questions and was very informative about the area and things to do.The party consisted of two adults in 60s ,4 adults in 30s and 2 grandchildren (2 an 4). There was plenty of space for all. The grandchildren had the wonderful deck to play on, a great lawn to run on and a sandy beach to explore. We will come back again.”

“We just spent another idyllic vacation at BackNacDack. Last year was our first and we returned again to find everything happily exactly the way it was last year. This house is in a wonderful location on the lake--secluded yet convenient enough. It is decorated tastefully and very comfortable with a great view overlooking the lake. The new owners were very accommodating and we plan to return.”
