“This is the best vacation we have ever had! My husband and i rented it for our honeymoon and are already planning another return next summer with our kids! It's very beautiful inside and out with the most pleasant and accommodating renters you could ever hope for! Absolutely love it! They have gone out of their way to make it special, even leaving us little welcoming gifts! So sweet! It's very cozy cabin with a perfect spot for all the relaxation you need! Very affordable and would HIGHLY recommend this site to anyone! Can't wait to come back!”

“The pictures do not do this wonderful cabin justice. Just a great, clean and very well maintained cabin in the perfect location. Julie and Rick are more than accommodating. We stayed from Friday to Sunday and all of us (3 couples) wish we could have stayed for an entire week. The river was clean, warm, and had a perfect sandy bottom. We took the canoe out and spotted a 20" walleye two minutes into the ride. Can't say enough positive things for this rental!”

“My son and I stayed here for 3 days to do some fishing on he Black River. The fishing conditions during our stay were not ideal since the water level was much higher than usual due to all the rain. It was a little tough to navigate the river in our canoe, but I suspect this is not the case under normal weather conditions. We were successful in catching some nice Smallmouth Bass in the 2-3 lb range very close to the house. The cabin itself was ideal for us. It was an excellent size for 2 people (could easily accommodate 4) and it was very clean and comfortable. The owners do an excellent job of keeping the property in good condition. My son and I really enjoyed the trip. It is a pretty secluded spot to focus on fishing and spending time together. I would definitely stay again.”

“We've returned to this place a couple of times, & each time has been so special! The owners are kind, generous people. There's a charming Amish grocery nearby, & we always buy homemade donuts there. Plus, since Old Forge isn't too terribly far away, we go to a great restaurant there. We couldn't kayak this year (for personal reasons), but we went for delicious walks, & our hostess provided information & maps! My husband & I'll return next year, during our anniversary week.”

“My husband and I stayed at this wonderful cabin for our honeymoon in October of 2016. Rick and Julie were wonderful, courteous, and so kind to us. They worked with us on the dates that we wanted for checking in and out, and when they heard we were staying for our honeymoon, they left us a beautiful welcome basket with some treats and goodies. The cabin itself was so cozy and the work that they personally did is so well done. We were able to get a lot of day trips in while we were at the cabin, including Lake Placid, Lake Ontario, a trip to Kingston, Ontario, Old Forge, Otter Lake, and more! The weather was a little rainy while we were there, but it just added to the entire thing. One day we even took a canoe trip using the canoe they have stored there for a trip down the river. The fall leaves were an amazing site. We loved staying at the cabin, and have already talked about coming back again. We're hoping to come back for our 1st anniversary in October, where we would be able to bring along our new baby (coming July 2017)!!! Can't wait to create more family memories at the cabin. Elizabeth & Randy Simpkins”

“Our stay at the cabin was amazing! I couldn't have asked for a more peaceful weekend. Julie was so friendly when we arrived showing us around this absolutely beautiful cabin with a fantastic view from the living room window overlooking the river and sunset from behind the trees. The cabin was completely stocked with anything you might need. There was a fresh basket of towels and wash clothes in the bathroom, toilet paper, paper plates an towels in the kitchen, condiments in the fridge, and so much more little things I packed thinking I would need. The outside is set up for relaxing day or night and a Walmart store is conveniently right down the road for anything you may need. I stayed three nights with my husband and brother in law for a fishing trip, but would love to come back and visit with my children sometimes as well. Highly recommended for a weekend away!”

“Our family enjoyed a wonderful vacation at Cockeyed Cabin. The cabin was very clean and comfortable with a well equipped kitchen. Enjoyed kayaking and swimming. Many local attractions, we made several trips to Wisheys for ice cream. An eagle flew along the river on our last day there. Thank you Rick and Julie for making us feel right at home and creating such a cozy getaway. ”

“Having never visited this part of America, we were surprised at how peaceful the Adirondacks is. The cabin at Black River is a little gem. It's a real home from home with great facilities, very spacious with plenty of room for all ( we were a total of 6) and within easy reach of Adirondacks park. We had a wonderful time and would love to return, and would certainly recommend it. Julie and her hubby are really lovely people , great sense of humour and we would love to meet up wth them again. Cheers to you ...both Kevin and I are drinking Jack daniels and toasting your good health (miss the moonshine, but I keep brushing my teeth coz it has the same affect)...xx”

“My husband & I had a wonderful time at the cabin. Both Julie & Rick are so charming & helpful. They worked to accommodate all of our needs. They even telephoned us when a storm hit, just to make sure everything was fine. It was.The inside of the cabin is lovely & tasteful, down to the smallest detail. The kitchen was well stocked with dishes, etc. and the eating table that sat in front of the window was small enough not to be invasive, but had a easy-to-lift-up leaf that extended to make it larger. The bedroom had plenty of storage space to either fold or hang your clothes, the lighting was good, & the bed & pillows comfortable. (The mattress could have been firmer, but my husband & I like ours extra-firm !) The view is great. There was a large picture window in the main room, from which you could see the river, the bank across from it, & trees. It was like living in an elegant tree house with all of the amenities! There are also more than adequate food & liquor stores nearby.Being handicapped, my needs were particular. They were mostly all met. (For the past couple of years, I have had para-neoplastic syndrome, caused when the anti-bodies produced to attack my breast cancer attacked my brain instead very rare. This left me somewhat disabled.) I found the cabin to be very wheelchair accessible. The only exception was the bathroom; I have balance problems, so getting in was tricky. But with my husband's help, I could do everything, even shower! Both the shower & the toilet had support bars, which were very useful. I could also go out to the deck to eat, as well as be wheeled down to the next level where I could sit. Both Rick & Julie asked a neighbor, who had a more accessible launch for a kayak, if we could put-in there. He said yes, although I also found it to be too steep. But there were easier public launching areas near-by, so that should be no problem. All in all, I'd say go. I know we'll be back. With warmth,Sharon Humphries-Brooks”

“Great location. Very hospitable owners. Rental description is accurate. Rates are fair. Cabin is in great shape-like new. Rick is an adept craftsman and it shows. Having the 2 kayaks & canoe with corresponding equipment is a real bonus. Our family enjoyed the serenity of the location & the Black River. Very rare to see another person or boat on that section of the river. Caught 5 species of fish. Saw bald eagles multiple times. Recommend.”

“We were very pleased with our stay at the "Black River Cockeyed Cabin". It was everything it promised to be and more. The Cabin was immaculate and well equipped. We were lacking for nothing. The Cabin is surrounded by tall pines and nature with a very relaxing atmosphere. Kayaking and canoeing on the Black River was an added bonus. We would highly recommend a holiday at the "Black River Cockeyed Cabin" if you need a stress free and tranquil vacation. The Owners of the Cabin were extremely accommodating and the type of people you would like to have as your next door neighbours. ”

“We had a great stay at the cabin last week. The cabin was comfy and clean and the view was amazing! We have a 2.5 yr old and a 10 mo. old and it is hard enough to pack with them, so it was nice to not have to bring a potty seat and a highchair. There were also plenty of towels for dirty little bodies and lots of room to spread out! We bought lots of yummy things from Miller's Meat Mkt down the road and various farm stands and the Farmer's Mkt. in Lowville. We traveled to the NY State Zoo and The Wild Ctr. both worth while trips if you have kids. We also enjoyed the Boonville Logger Days and just driving around the back roads exploring the area. We made it to Old Forge for some shopping and the Adirondack tourist experience. The deer walk right down Main St. we saw a momma doe with triplets! The fishing wasn't great while we were there, but we found lots of blackberries and plenty of "nothing" to do to keep us busy. The owners were super nice and helpful, the neighbors were friendly. I would recommend this cabin to anyone that wants to have a nice cozy relaxing place to get away. ”

“We just stayed 3 nights at this camp and had a fantastic time! Julie and Rick were great hosts and made this beautiful cabin a home-away-from-home with every possible amenity available! The house was new, clean and cozy and we felt right at home there. We have 3 young kids that loved playing inside and out! We were able to relax and get away from it all to a quiet place and just have some family time. We've stayed at several properties over the last several years throughout the Adirondacks and this is definitely our favorite!”

“Had a wonderful stay at the "Cockeyed Cabin" . The place was spotless, had everything you'd need including gourmet cookware and awesome knives( I like to cook) The view is really nice and the owners ( Rick & Julie) were very available , if you need them. It was quiet and secluded , yet only a few miles from stores. I will definitely be making a return trip here !!”

“This is a lovely cabin that lives up to its billing. It has beautiful pine on the inside along with new carpet, new kitchen, bathroom etc. The property is very neat and clean. You feel like you are up in the trees when you look out the big picture window toward the river. This is a cabin for people who want to get away from the tourist traps. We went on several hikes/walks and saw no one! One day some planes from Fort Drum flew by, but other than that this is a very quiet place. The owners were very helpful, even sharing their freshly picked corn with us the evening we arrived. The notebook on local attractions was useful and thoughtful. The description says that the cabin holds a maximum of 6 and this is true. It is really suited for either two couples, or a couple and three children. The cabin is not far from Lowville, which has stores (and a farmer's market) for supplies. It was a very nice place to stay, and we would come back.”

“The rental and its owners are hidden jewels. The location is not for those seeking night-life, but offers a serene view of and easy access to a clean, swim-able and flot-able river. The cabin is really more a vacation home than it is a cabin.. Right down to the Paula Deen cookware, the hosts have put together a spanking clean environment, suitable for families, for a romantic week or just getting away from it all to be bathed in quiet, soothing nature. Still, for those who need some noise, the cable tv and the DVD-playing tv offer media entertainment. We stayed in the cabin for two weeks, caught fish, kayaked chatted with the friendly neighbors and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. If we could return to the North Country again next year, we would re-visit the "Cockeyed Cabin" without fail. Hats off in every way to the hosts!!”
