"Broken Arrow"--Our camp derives its name from the Native American word for 'peace,' and the setting is lovely for rest and renewal. This lovely lakefront Upper Saranac Lake camp rests on two acres of woods with sweeping panoramic views of The Point to the north and Eagle Island to the south. Our 200+ feet of clear deep waterfront provide a perfect spot to relax or swim.
Watch gorgeous sunsets from the western exposure dock nestled in our Adirondack chairs or bask in sun all aftern …oon. Our home is nestled in a wooded bowl, surrounded by lovely pines. The house sits approximately 50 feet from the lake, and our dock is accessible via a few gradual steps. The lake is visible through the trees from the living room, screened porch, and two bedrooms. Sit on the screened in porch to enjoy the call of the loons or while dining alfresco. The home, built by a quality contractor in 2005, features a vaulted ceiling living/dining room, pine paneling, beams, cedar flooring, lots of light, ceiling fan, and skylight. A field-stone fireplace is a focal point in the living space while the spacious well-equipped kitchen features a center dining island. There is a fire pit outside to roast your marshmallows, and a hammock to relax you!
The cabin has three bedrooms with nice high ceilings; two downstairs, Queen sized bed in middle bedroom and three single beds (a bunk bed and extra single bed) in the smaller bedroom with a full bath (tub /shower) between. A large master bedroom with king bed, walk-in closet, and sitting/reading nook is upstairs via a lovely open staircase, and it has its own master bathroom with shower. There is a wall mounted TV in the Queen bedroom next to a large closet. We have cabin wide internet, wi-fi, a broad selection of DVD's, and both a CD and I pod music player.
The property is accessed by several miles of private road ensuring privacy and providing a great place to walk and ride mountain bikes. The Upper Saranac Lake Foundation monitors the water quality (though the camp uses it's own excellent, potable well water) and maintains safe boating rules. There are marinas for boat rentals in Saranac Lake, or bring your own boat. We provide two kayaks and a canoe for your enjoyment. For fishing enthusiasts Upper Saranac Lake hosts lake trout, bass, northern pike, and landlocked salmon. Besides our swimming dock we have a separate dock/ramp for launching canoes (with roller mechanism) and an ingenious kayak launcher to stabilize our kayaks for getting safely in and out at our shore.
The property is very close to the largest portion of Forever Wild State land on this eight mile lake, (Upper Saranac Lake is the fifth largest lake in the Adirondacks.) The town of of Saranac Lake, an All-American City, is only 15 miles away and Olympic Village of Lake Placid with all of its attractions is 25 miles away. Saranac Lake also has The Pendragon Theater which offers live professional performances, and the Robert Louis Stevenson Cottage nearby. The new Adirondack Rail Trail offers 34 miles of bike and walking paths from Lake Placid to Tupper Lake. Or visit the Adirondack Carousel, in Saranac Lake a true classic. Tupper Lake is only 14 miles away. The town trailheads and bike routes are plentiful along Rte. 3 and Rte. 30, and the High Peaks are nearby for more challenging hikes. We are in the midst of the Saranac Chain of Lakes, offering over 30 miles of canoe adventures and scenic paddling. The Wild Center in Tupper Lake, The Adirondack Experience in Blue Mountain Lake and the Visitors Interpretive Center at Paul Smiths are all outstanding day trips! Tupper Lake and Saranac Inn offer public golf courses.

“This was our first stay at Broken Arrow. We had been searching for a magical place to replace a longtime, beloved rental on Lake Clear that changed hands and became unavailable. We have found it with Broken Arrow! This place is meticulous, elegant, and comfortable: tastefully decorated in a contemporary Adirondack style, with great lighting, comfortable furniture and beds, and a kitchen any cook would love. (Top of the line appliances, cookware, and utensils...Plus, you stand at the kitchen island and look at the lake through the trees.) We enjoyed the reading nook, which is stocked with great books and area maps. We had some wonderful paddles right off the dock, with Adirondack park land close by. We had dinners in the delightful screened in porch. The large dock, almost brand new, features Adirondack chairs that were perfect for reading, lunch, or cocktails. Swimming off the dock was fun -- the water is clear and pristine. Neighbors are nearby, but weren't an issue -- this place feels private and the dock chairs are tucked in to the property so it feels intimate. When we first arrived, the road was intimidating, but turned out not to be daunting at all. We were also concerned about the level of detail in the owner's guidelines; but as it turns out, it's a privilege to rent a property where the owner cares so deeply about the details and bends over backward to make sure all the details are in place. We loved Broken Arrow, highly recommend it, and have already booked a week for next year. Thanks for making your wonderful cabin available for us to rent!”

“This is an immaculate and well-equipped lakefront home. It was our third stay in the house, and we hope to come back next year. The west-facing dock on the lake is a lovely place to spend the afternoon or just watch the sunset. It is also a joy to canoe on Upper Saranac Lake. The owner is super-responsive. ”

“Broken Arrow is a gem! Well cared for inside and out. The home and grounds are classic high quality Adirondack both in the building, materials and workmanship set on zen like grounds with easy access to a solid well crafted dock and plenty of boats (including canoe, kayak) and even a blessed kayak launcher that works like a charm. Attentive and responsive owners with quick response time to any questions. Flatscreen TV on wall in downstairs queen bedroom is nice touch that gets it out of a well appointed fireplace/living room that comfortably shares the large downstairs with a very complete, modern eat-in kitchen. Bunks in a 2nd bedroom downstairs and a beautiful king bedroom upstairs. Two full baths. Screened in porch. This place is the real deal and well be back next summer.”

“This was our second year at Camp Broken Arrow and it was even better than our first! We had great weather, the location is absolutely beautiful and as an added bonus, we were there at the right time to see the wooden boat parade on July 4th and could watch the fireworks at The Point from the dock. The dock was perfect for the boat we had rented and we spent many hours cruising not only Upper Saranac Lake but also Fish Creek Ponds. We even seem to have gotten used to the challenging long road into the cabin, though it still is a bit nervewracking when you have a car coming from the opposite direction and you both need to figure out how to fit past each other. The cabin was immaculately clean when we arrived and, as always, wonderfully appointed. I would highly recommend a stay here; we have already booked for next year! ”

“Absolutely perfect in every way! Our favorite rental ever! This beautifully decorated home was so clean, the kitchen was well stocked, short walk to the dock with gorgeous views. Owners were very kind- from the welcome letter upon arrival to reminder phone call for trash. Thank you for opening your beautiful home to us we will definitely return in the future.”

“This was our second stay at Camp Broken Arrow. It is an immaculately maintained, nicely furnished, very well equipped beautiful camp on the east shore of the Narrows of Upper Saranac Lake. Camp neighbors were mostly absent during the week and generally quiet while there on the weekend. We enjoyed spending most of our time lakeside on the dock. One evening six loons gathered in view; I've never seen so many at once! The dock is great for swimming. It didn't affect us, but please be aware that there is no beach; jumping off the dock is the way to enter the water. There is a nice, clean ladder for climbing back out. The camp provides an aluminum canoe and two kayaks. We brought our own canoe because we like to take extra canoe trips nearby. We did use one of the kayaks, taking advantage of the nifty new kayak launcher. We enjoyed having all our meals in camp on the screened porch, and other quiet spots to read, such as the hammock and the pair of Adirondack chairs tucked away in the dappled shade. We also enjoyed the fire pit with firewood provided. The unpaved access road is smooth enough, but the drive is lengthy, so you should plan your local outings accordingly. We highly recommend Camp Broken Arrow.”

“The cabin and setting are phenomenal! The cabin was beautifully decorated, very functional and included almost everything you would need for your stay. So very comfortable, with large bedrooms, an excellent kitchen with island and a cozy living room as well as two full bathrooms. The screened porch with lake views was ideal in which to eat meals. The cabin is in perfect shape and well maintained. The location is a prime location in the Adirondacks with lakefront and a huge dock. The deep water swimming off the dock may not be suitable for young children, as there is no beach, but is wonderful, regardless. Sunsets and stargazing at night on the dock are amazing. The only negative about this location is that access to the cabin is about 4.5 miles down a challenging road (dirt and gravel, one lane). Allow plenty of time if you plan on going off the property and be prepared for any traffic coming from the other direction. ”

“My wife and I recently enjoyed several relaxing days at Broken Arrow. This property is tucked away in a very private setting, and oozes comfort and quality. So many features inside and out are both visually appealing and very well maintained. The house was exceptionally clean. New wooden dock and unique steps leading to it made of tree chunks with bark left on and a tree limb railing. A new grill, beautiful kitchen wares, everything you could want in a lake front home. We enjoyed a canoe ride across the Narrows to Follensby Clear Pond, roasting marshmallows in the rock fire pit, and reading and playing games inside. Our only regret was not having more family members to share it with us during our brief time there. ”

“We enjoyed a great week at Camp Broken Arrow. The house is beautiful, living up to the web site photos, comfortable and well equipped, from the kitchen and family room to the foyer with its neatly arranged lifejackets and paddles for the canoe and kayaks, and even some fishing poles and tackle. The house was immaculately clean and very well organized. A few beautiful rustic steps led us down to the brand new dock, with clear, weedless, deep water for swimming, plenty deep enough to jump from the dock, and a metal ladder to climb out of the water. It was not an issue for us, but please be aware that there isn't a sand beach. The entire lakefront area is attractively wooded. The shoreline viewed across the narrows was a bit more than half undeveloped, with the development being toward Fish Creek Bay. Looking north or south down the Narrows the water view expands to the wider parts of the lake. We were greeted daily by hummingbirds at the feeders, loons swimming nearby, and once by a pair of bald eagles not far from the dock. We've rented other properties in the area; all things considered this is my favorite and we will be back for more.”

“We had an amazing stay at Broken Arrow. It was so peaceful and relaxing. The house was absolutely gorgeous- clean and well maintained. A nook for everyone. I especially enjoyed reading upstairs in the little reading nook. It had plenty of room for 4 adults and two children. The kitchen had a lot of space to cook. The screened in porch/room was a great place to play cards and board games on a rainy day (we had 1). Also, it was very easy to access water and not many steps to get there. It was great for my mother that struggles with steps. The dock was beautiful, my kids enjoyed swimming and fishing. It was such a nice place to stay and I look forward to going back. ”

“This past week was our first time at Broken Arrow Camp and we will definitely be back. Location is ideal, situated near the top of the Narrows on beautiful Upper Saranac Lake, and west-facing so you can enjoy the sunsets. Kayakers will appreciate the accessibility to the neighboring ponds and lakes. Cabin, dock and grounds are all meticulously maintained. Cabin would comfortablely sleep up to 6. Main room is a large open space with high beamed ceiling over the kitchen and living area. Kitchen had all the amenities and everything in good working order. Fire pit and gas grill are added features. Deeper water wooden dock is really nice with four Adirondack chairs and plenty of space for the whole family to swim and sunbathe. There is a smaller separate dock with a cool little kayak launcher. Two kayaks are available for renters. Cabin is toward the end of a long gravel road, which has some of the nicest cabins on the lake. Renters should note that it is at least a 15 minute drive off of the main highway. Dealt directly with the owners, who were extremely helpful and friendly, and responded quickly to our questions.”

“Broken Arrow definitely delivered on its description of "peaceful lakeside privacy and sunsets"! The home was just beautiful and so well appointed with amenities and special touches galore such as ADK themed nightlights in the bathrooms, cute bear toilet paper holder, life jackets, paddles, a mini-library well stocked with fiction & non-fiction books, maps of the area, seating on front porch, 4 ADK chairs on dock, clothes line, birch bark lined path to the steps leading to the dock, etc., just to name a few. The kitchen had just about every cooking item you can imagine. The screened in porch/dining area was lovely for morning breakfast and dinners. The short walk to the dock was like stepping into your own little piece of heaven. The views from the dock, especially at sunset, were spectacular! The dirt road to this beautiful lakeside home is just over 4 miles, offering much privacy and a great reward when you arrive. We swam and kayaked off the dock and hiking wasn't too far from the camp. The owners have a 3-ring binder in the kitchen with details on everything you might need to use while there (small appliances, gas grill, etc., etc.). The cabin is open, bright, clean, comfortable and had plenty of space for our family. Checking into the cabin was easy with instructions provided. We would definitely consider staying here again!”

“We had a fabulous stay at this property, it really has it all! It is beautiful and the owners have thought of absolutely everything to make your stay relaxing and adventurous! My husband and I loved drinking our coffee on the dock while reading books (if you forget yours there are several options in the reading nook upstairs outside the master bedroom) and we caught a couple of incredible sunsets! My kids (ages 6 and 9) LOVED jumping off the dock, we ventured out on the kayaks and the canoe, and caught a ton of fish right off the dock! We hiked a couple of smaller mountains- Cobbs Hill and Coney (we are working on becoming 3-6-9ers) and were rewarded with gorgeous views. We of course enjoyed smores by the fire and had a fun family game night one night. There is a large selection of board games and we enjoyed and discovered some new games we had never heard of before (sitting ducks gallery). We also spent a day in Lake Placid (about 45mins away) where we hiked, shopped, had some delicious BBQ at Smoke Signals and hit up the public beach on Mirror Lake. This was the perfect getaway and we even forgot all about coronavirus while there! The last few miles to reach the house are a little rough (one lane winding dirt road) but Broken Arrow was well worth it! We would definitely return here! ”

“Broken Arrow was a fabulous place to stay - could not have asked for anything more perfect for our stay! Since it's near the end of Bartlett Carry Road, it's very peaceful and private. The cabin itself is extremely comfortable with a well-stocked kitchen, comfortable beds/pillows, well-crafted linens/bedspreads, plenty of seating in the living room/kitchen, and ample bathroom space. The dock provides a lot of room to move around and the kyaks and canoe are easy to get to and get in and out of. Lifejackets for adults and children are available (maybe 4 of each?), so no need to bring your own. The owners have thought of everything and unlike other places we have rented, do not strip it down to the bare bones. Items you might like to use but did not bring such as binoculars, flashlights, long stick lighters, etc. are available. The Guest Manual that Rita sends is a must-read...you'll be glad you did and it will help to ensure that you get the most out of your stay in the cabin and in the Adirondacks in general. There's a more thorough Guest manual notebook at the cabin which provides even more details. We look forward to making our way back to Broken Arrow! :) ”

“We stayed at Broken Arrow at the end of September 2019. It is a beautiful and well-equipped property. The owners are extremely responsive and the house is squeaky clean. The dock on the lake was one of our favorite features of the place. It faces west, so we spent every evening watching the sunset and taking in the beautiful fall colors. Canoeing is great on the lake and we even swam from the dock, though the water was a little chilly that time of year. The 4.5 mile gravel road to the house is bumpy and slow (15 mph), but this is not a problem if you plan ahead in terms of supplies, and it only makes the property more private. I highly recommend this place.”

“Broken Arrow is a beautiful camp; clean, well furnished, and comfortable. Pictures are accurate. Lakefront is pretty, and we swam and kayaked alot. Kitchen is large and two people are able to work in it without tripping over each other. The screened in porch was our dining room throughout the week. If I were pressed for negative comments the only one is that the overhead light on the porch seems to be a compact flourescent, but we avoided that with candles and the mantle lamp. But that's nit-picking!”

“Thanks for staying with us Brooks and for the nice remarks! We love watching sunsets while dining. We are not satisfied with the porch lighting either. We'll continue to experiment with more options!”

“Owners are very caring and considerate and anticipate all the renters potential needs. Towels, bed linens, kitchen and bath supplies, kayaks, canoe, paddles, life vests, and fishing equipment are all provided. Complete instructions are included and the owners answered phone questions promptly. The house is a recent build and beautifully maintained, with a well-equipped kitchen and natural light from the many windows. The swimming platform offers a great view of Upper Saranac Lake, away from traffic and noise. My guests and I enjoyed stargazing from our seats around the firepit and breakfasting in the screened in dining room. There is a nice sunlit library nook in the loft with interesting books. The neighbors are cordial and helpful. Everyone had a great time!”

“The perfect Adirondack "camp" on Upper Saranac. It had everything we could want: a dock on the water from which to watch the sunsets and launch our kayaks, a well appointed kitchen, large screened in porch. You can see it all from the pictures. It is as nice as it looks or nicer. One and only drawback was the long drive on a rocky dirt road. ”

“Broken Arrow was the perfect place for our family vacation. The camp is extremely well constructed and maintained. The 2 kayaks and 1 canoe (along with paddles and pfd's) made for some very fun family exploration of the lake. We loved how well constructed and comfortable the dock was for lounging and passing quiet and peaceful sunny afternoons - especially because it faces west (the sunsets were just beautiful). My husband and I enjoyed having our own master suite upstairs while the kids had their own space downstairs. The dressers in the bedrooms were empty so that we could move right in and put our things away. We also loved the "Adirondack" decorating in the camp. The owners are very thorough in providing all the information that you might need while staying at their camp. And they are very accessible if you have any questions. There is a screened in porch for eating, a campfire ring for roasting marshmallows, a comfortable hidden spot in the woods with 2 Adirondack chairs for relaxing, and the Adirondack chairs on the dock were extremely comfortable. We also heard and saw loons several times - always the highlight of being on an Adirondack lake! We would highly recommend Broken Arrow to anyone looking for a peaceful, restorative place in the Adirondacks.”

“We had a lovely stay at Broken Arrow in late August. The owners have created a peaceful respite on the narrows of Upper Saranac Lake. Literally, everything you need is there, even a welcoming bottle of wine! The house and grounds are beautiful, and very well supplied. The seclusion on this part of the lake was as we expected, and about a 15-20 minute drive from the main road, but this did not make one bit of difference to us. We climbed St. Regis and Baker, paddled the Follensby loop, did the tourist thing in Lake Placid, etc.. Our only disappointment was the cold weather! Who knew it could be that cold in August- 38 degrees when we left on Saturday morning! Thanks again to the owners for a memorable experience! ”

“Broken Arrow is an immaculate residence and a great place to relax after a day of hiking, biking, and kayaking. Since it's 20 minutes down a 15-mph dirt road, we planned our days' activities so that we only had to go in and out once, and the road itself wasn't an issue at all if you traveled at the speed limit. The residence is located at the upper part of the Narrows mid-lake in a very, very nice area of scattered high-end cabins and even a Great Camp or two. My wife's favorite part of Broken Arrow was the screened in porch, while mine was the dock where I kept my boat for fishing. I launched at Fish Creek Ponds campground across the lake and kept the trailer there for the week, as I didn't want to tow it down the access road to the cabin. It wasn't difficult, but did require some logistic planning to retrieve my truck, and it took ~2 hours total. And bring LARGE bumpers for the dock, as the wakes from passing recreational boaters can be significant. However, I'm so glad we had the Lund as it made exploring this lake easier. The smallmouth bass fishing was great--for the first and last two hours of light. Mid-day was tougher, so when we weren't off doing other things, we spend it running around and exploring the many bays and islands on the lake, with the occasional dip to stay cool. In short, Broken Arrow lived up to it's rating and our expectations, the area is beautiful, and I highly recommend it.”

“We enjoyed our stay at Broken Arrow. It is a lovely property that has obviously been developed, designed and furnished with great care and attention to detail. Just about every need of the renter has been thought of and taken care of. It is a long way (4.5 miles) down a largely unpaved road, so guests that are planning to go back and forth to see sights in the area will find that an inconvenience as it takes 20-25 minutes to get there off the main road. If you just want a place to stay for a week and plan to spend the majority of time at the cabin, then it's the perfect place. The dock and lake are lovely. There were lots of rules to follow, which made us nervous during our stay and detracted somewhat from our experience.”
Owner's Response
“Thank you for your candid remarks Chris. We always want our guests to feel comfortable and welcome. We will review our Guest Manual and make sure that, going forward, our information on the area's attractions and activities is as prominent as any information on fire safety, help with Wi-Fi, our grill, or other appliances. Our suggestions for caring for Broken Arrow stem from our desire to provide the cleanest and most impeccable camp, and avoid any problems for current or future renters. Our camp is on a private road and is maintained by our road association. Those living near Pork Bay pay the highest dues to keep the road graded and maintained. Harsh winters, summer influx and recent construction can take a toll. We will continue to alert guests of our location on the Narrows, and the trade off of privacy and great sunsets for the greater convenience of staying in town.”

“We have been traveling to the Adirondacks for over 30 years (20 or so to Upper Saranac), but this was our first visit to Broken Arrow. The house, grounds, and docking area was just as beautiful as advertised. The owners have created a wonderful home with all the amenities and are very dedicated to making each visitor's stay a time to remember. The location on the lake was perfect. “This is a lovely, well-maintained modern home with a cabiny Adirondack feel. We loved the big screened in porch dining room. The boat access and swimming dock were first-rate and Upper Saranac is a beautiful, clean lake! It is exactly as represented by the owners. The only very small negative could also be considered a positive...it's a long ride in on the one lane dirt road. This did ensure peace and quiet. ”

“Beautiful camp. My husband and I spent a week there in September 2015, just the two of us. We enjoyed the canoe and kayak and made use of the grill, fire pit and hammock. This camp is quite a long drive from the main road, down a reasonably well surfaced gravel track so you do need to remember to bring all your supplies. Our absolute favourite thing was the dock, where we sat every morning for coffee and every evening for sunset drinks. It was so beautiful and peaceful - absolutely fantastic.”

“We just spent a week at Broken Arrow and found it to be just as advertised- a lovely, serene, and tranquil location, with gorgeous sunset views. The sound of loons kept us company at night and the star watching is just amazing. The house is perfectly equipped with just about anything you would need; it is impeccably clean, comfortable, and cozy. The owners go out of their way to anticipate all your needs as evidenced by the ingenious kayak launcher David constructed. Since the shore is quite rocky, we were very concerned about how difficult it would be to get in and out of our kayaks. Rita had told us her husband was working on something to make this easier and lo and behold it was completed in time for our rental. We were so appreciative and can say with great enthusiasm it works like a charm! No fear of falling in the water. Broken Arrow is on a dirt road quite a ways off the main highway so there are no quick trips back and forth to Saranac Lake and/or Tupper Lake. But, if you want a change of scenery, by all means venture into Saranac Lake and take in the neat art galleries. If youre there on a Saturday be sure to go to the Farmers Market its terrific. All in all we highly recommend Broken Arrow you wont be disappointed! ”

“Broken Arrow is advertised as Peace, Tranquility, a place to rejuvenate. It is certainly this! We enjoyed our weeks stay so much. The home itself is fashioned from reclaimed wood from the site & is gorgeous. It sits on upper Saranac lake & is a true treasure. It is so comfortable. Beds very comfy & cozy!! The home & grounds can only be described as beautiful & peaceful. Well maintained & just a delight. Clean & stocked with the essential cooking tools. We traveled with my 6 1/2 year old granddaughter & enjoyed swimming in the lake every day off the dock. We did not use the provided kayaks or canoe, but brought our own little boat to launch nearby & did tours of the lake & some catch & release fishing. No bugs! Sunsets beautiful! We enjoyed dinner on the screened porch every night. Campfires @ the pit just a relaxing time to rehash the days activities. Loons calling at night mesmerizing. What more can I say, This place is a true treasure! Think "On Golden Pond". There is so much nature & sites to see in the area. All within easy traveling distance. Try the Lumberjack in Tupper lake. Good homemade pancakes with local maple syrup, also homemade soup & bread. Tail & the Pup in nearby Raybrook has excellent Bar B Que & Lobster....plus live music & a great playground for the kids. Be sure to go to Ausable Chasm in Keene & the Olympic Center in Lake Placid, where you can see the athletes training. We can honestly say that in our travels, we did not meet anyone who was not congenial or helpful. Rita & David are great hosts. We've rebooked for next year. So looking forward to it.”

“Part 2 of 2 (PROPERTY/LAKE, BOATING, DOWNSIDES). See my husbands review for Part 1, covering HOSTS and each part of the HOUSE. We a posting in two parts to conform to the website character limit. PROPERTY/LAKE: Privacy, privacy, privacy. The long dirt road this house is on has very few houses, all separated by woods. We could see neighbors' houses on either side if we looked through the trees, but mostly you feel like you are in your own little world. The dock is about 40' from the neighbors docks, but we rarely saw anyone, even on Labor Day weekend. The lake has very little trafficon Friday evening of Labor Day weekend we took our canoe to a rope swing we found on Saginaw Bay. We didn't see a single soul on the entire lake! It is a big, gorgeous Lake with what feels like just a handful of houses here and there. The house is set back from the lake just the right amount. You can see the Lake, but boaters passing by can't see you. Compared to other houses on Upper Saranac (that are often up on a cliff with long staircases), this one had very easy lake access. There is a small grassy area in the backyard, then about 10 wide not-very-steep steps down to the swimming dock, and about the same distance to the boat launch dock in the other direction. The kids loved swimming off of the dock. There is not a shallow beach area, it is more of a jump-off-and-swim experience. The water is plenty deep to feel safe with big jumps (6-7' deep directly in front of the dock). You cannot see the dock from the house because of the trees, so the kids could swim when we were outside and we had them wear lifejackets provided with the house if they were going to hang out down there without us. BOATING: The rental comes with 2 one-person kayaks, and a metal canoe that are all in great shape. Even the paddles are in mint condition! The kids loved the kayaks. We took a couple of longer canoe trips as a family. The canoe is large enough that we could fit all five of us (paddlers in the front and back, three sitting on the floor in between.) Another example of owners thinking of everything: they provided two lake maps, already enclosed in waterproof bags with clips to affix them to the life jackets. See what I mean about constantly exceeding expectations The house had 3 basic fishing rods that the kids loved to use. My youngest daughter even caught a fish in Pork Bay during one of our canoe trips! (remember to buy some worms on the way inwe got a container that lasted the whole week). DOWNSIDES: What are the downsides Can't think of too many! Just a few minor cautions and possible inconveniences to consider: 1. The house is 20 minutes down a very bumpy dirt road off of the main road. For us, this was a feature' rather than a bug' because that bumpy road is the ticket to all that privacy and silence. Plus it encouraged us to slow down and not leave! Totally worth it, in our opinion. You have this a big, gorgeous Lake with what feels like just a handful of houses. But if you have aspirations of popping into town a few times a day, Id think again. This also means that you need to add about 20 minutes on to anything that your Google maps or GPS tells you regarding distances. 2. For us, the biggest inconvenience was no washer or dryer access. This is as advertised in the materials, so there was no surprise, but that one addition would have brought us from 99.7 to 100%! Drying wet things on the clothes line worked fine, but if it were rainy or cold it could be a hassle. We packed light and heavynot bringing too much, but bringing enough of what we did bring to last a week without wash. At least we didnt spend our vacation doing laundry! 3. I would suggest that you bring (or the owners consider providing in the future) fold up chairs for the campfire. The large rocks situated around the campfire look like you might sit on them, but they (a) uncomfortable for an evening by the fire and (b) way too close to the firetoo hot and smoky. We had a couple of fold up chairs we keep in our car, which helped (two of us), but we would bring five of them next time. OVERALL, Overall, we can't imagine a better place for a family to get away, relax, and spend together. We are so thankful for The wonderful time and memories of our week upper Saranac Lake Camp broken arrow. Rent it right now!”

“wow..what an amazing review! UPDATE! we now have a brand new Queen bed in middle bedroom, a new loveseat, and we just got four Adirondack chairs for the fire pit--so..Like minds! :) We are always cautious with water usage for our septic system, but your review has encouraged us to allow washer/dryer usage for summer 2015! Thank you so much for all the time and attention to detail you spent to write this!! Much appreciated!”

“Part 1 of 2 (See my wifes review for Part 2. Per webmaster instructions, we are posting this review in two parts to conform to the website character limit.) Our family of five (three children ages 7, 9, and 11) had a wonderful stay at Camp Broken Arrow. This review is long because this place is worth it. I wrote with the kind of detail I appreciate in a review when making decision to invest the time and money involved in a family vacation. If you dont want to read the entire thing here is a summary: Broken Arrow exceeded our (very high) expectations over and over again. This place is an absolute gem! HOST: Interacting with owners of a vacation rental is so important. Rita was the perfect host. Our interactions from pre-rental on forward were helpful and cordial. Rita loves this house and is genuinely happy for her guests to appreciate it. She responded to email inquiries in a timely manner and was available to help with a question we had during our stay. We didnt have many questions, though, because she provided a helpful and comprehensive Guest Manual, which we consulted often during our stay. HOUSE: The House was the perfect size, perfect layout for our family. You have just enough room to feel comfortable but not so much that you feel like you're taking care of a big house on vacation. House is well appointed with everything feeling much newer than we expected. The place is also immaculate. As an example, even the Adirondack decorations (ducks, boats, etc) that are tastefully placed 15 feet up on the exposed beams were completely free of dust. I dont know how they do it! MBR (Upstairs): The upstairs master bedroom is comfortable and affords a good deal of privacy, with a nice sized bed (with custom BA sculpted wood headboard) and a bathroom attached. After a couple of days we discovered that the mattress firmness was independently adjustable on each side one of those sleep number beds where you could pick how firm or soft he would like it. That was a nice surprise and my wife and I enjoyed getting our sides just right for a beautiful quiet night sleep in the woods. The linens were high quality soft and generous, and the pillows were very comfortable. The master bath was clean and nice. The corner shower is a touch small, but just fine. We were mindful about not using too much hot water, but there was always plenty for a family of five. BUNK BED BR (main floor): The bedroom with the bunk beds was just right for the three kids. They enjoyed all sleeping together and loved the sturdy bunk beds. As with the rest of the house, there was nothing cheap or cheesy about the beds or furniture everything solid, nice, clean, and new. There were even nice night lights in the house, which came in handy for the kids' bedroom so that the upper bunk person could see if she needed to climb down be wellangled latter during the night. In fact, the night lights are an example of how everything at Broken Arrow is just a little better than you expect. Rather than just ordinary night lights, these have sculpted iron ones that cast interesting shadows on the wall. Not a big deal, but illustrative of the way Broken Arrow exceeds your expectations in every way. 2ND BR (main floor): The 2nd downstairs BR is large. Right now, there is a relatively small futonlike bed in there, but I understand from the owner that there will soon be a queen bed there. There is a nice closet in that room and a window that looks out into the backyard woods and lake. There is a bathroom with tub and shower conveniently located right next to these two BR. KITCHEN: The kitchen had everything we needed. Cooking utensils, eating utensils, dishes cups, everything. We brought in all of our own ingredients and basics, but there was also a small supply of cooking basics you might need or have forgotten. The Island comfortably seats four for a meal, but you can (and we did) squeeze five around it. We ate breakfast there, but all the rest of our meals in the screened porch. SCREENED PORCH: The screened in porch oh the screened in porch! Eating and playing board games out in the porch was a highlight for our family. Don't underestimate how important this feature of the house can be to the overall quality of life during your vacation. It was wonderful to have a place to eat outside that didn't depend upon the weather. We didn't notice a lot of mosquitoes, but I understand the lake can sometimes have them, so having the spacious area to have meals without worry about bugs is just wonderful. There is a fireplace out there too for cooler seasons, but I dont believe it was working at the time we rented. For PROPERTY/LAKE, BOATING, and DOWNSIDES, see my wife's review (Part 2 of 2)”

“We had a wonderful 2 week stay at this camp right on the lake. It had all the amenities we needed - up to date kitchen, bathrooms, screened porch, comfy beds, gas grill and more. Our boys love swimming of the dock during the day and fishing at night. The kayaks provided were great and it was fun exploring the lake. We've stayed at other camps in the Adirondacks and this was by far the nicest and a great location for the peace and quiet we were looking for. ”

“Our family has been renting lakeside cabins in the adirondack lakes for fifteen years. Our favorite location is upper saranac lake. About five years ago we discovered Bartlett carry rd, and have rented several different homes in this community, all of them have been awesome! We have been searching for "the place" to come back each year and enjoy some quality family time. Finally, this summer we have found that place! Broken arrow is everything we hoped it would be and more. The house is so welcoming, warm, and CLEAN!! The kitchen is well equipped, the layout of the house is perfect with 2 spacious bedrooms downstairs and the beautiful master bed/bath upstairs overlooking the lake! Every day our family enjoyed sitting on the dock and taking in the breathtaking scenery, catching lots of fish, and diving/swimming in the crystal clear water. Can't forget the peaceful sounds of the loons every day and night.... Now that is vacation in the Adirondacks! The screened in porch was the perfect place for lakeside dining and family game night! There is not anything we can think of that we were missing or would change! Broken arrow really is "the place" We can not wait to go back!!!!”

“My partner and four girls vacationed at Broken Arrow for five days in July 2014. The house, dcor and location surpassed our expectations. Small details which have huge impacts on an ADK rental made our stay perfect. The house has a fantastic air circulation system which allowed the house to stay cool with the windows closed. This eliminated the no-see-ums, mosquitos, and other usual bugs known to ruin pleasant days in the ADKs. The dock has deep clean water which made for perfect swimming and jumping. The interior is perfect ADK dcor, and the house is set up perfectly for privacy for the adults with two separate rooms for the children. Nearby hiking was outstanding, we highly recommend hiking up Ampersand Mt. The location is also perfect for multiple Lake canoe/kayak trips. We hope to return soon.”
