The Bear's Den is extremely private and is available year round. Brand new kitchen and screened in front porch! The cabin is close to many great outdoor activities including access to Loon Lake for canoeing, fishing, swimming and more. Access to the lake is about 2 miles away and you can park there. There is a canoe and kayak there for you to use. Loon Lake is a private lake and sees very little motor boat activity which makes it a Great Lake for canoes and kayaks. Yes there are loons! It's awes …ome to hear their calls and sometimes see them up close. The Bear's Den is located 20 miles north of Saranac Lake and 28 miles to Lake Placid/Whiteface Mountain in Franklin County NY. It is about 30 minutes to Titus mountain which is a great little ski resort. The cabin has two bedrooms and one bath. one bedroom has a full size bed and the other bedroom has a queen size bed and a twin in a loft. There is a Big screen TV and satellite wireless internet but no cable/TV service. Go fishing on Loon Lake for Large Mouth bass, Small Mouth and Northern Pike! There are also places to fish for trout within 10 minutes of the camp. There are thousands of acres of state land a stone's throw away and you can hike up Crusher Mountain in about 45 minutes from the front door. if you are feeling a little more adventurous, you can hike Loon Lake Mountain and see the fire tower. There are so many things you can do in the area. The cabin is rustic, cozy and very private. We hope to hear from you soon.

“Awesome place! This was my second rental in the past three years. Bear's Den is in a private location and the property is well maintained. The cabin comes equipped with everything that one would need. I absolutely have no complaints! We enjoyed a week at the cabin, and spent 4 days on Loon lake, using the canoes, kayak's and row boat that were provided. Located close to Saranac lake and Lake Placid. I can't wait to get back there. I highly recommend to anyone looking for a nice cabin get away.”

“The Bear's Den is an awesome little place in a quiet, secluded, wooded area just a short walk from Loon Lake. The cabin was very clean and comfortable with plenty of space to stretch out and relax. The refrigerator, stove and microwave are all in excellent condition. We practically lived on the screened-in porch during our stay, since it's the perfect way to enjoy the fresh air and scenery without being bothered by the bugs. It was great to have access to the canoe and kayaks on the lake (we didn't use the rowboat). There are some good hiking trails around the area, and the lake has good fishing. If you like stream fishing, the North Branch of the Saranac River is a 10-minute drive away. Saranac Lake is about 30 minutes or so, and you can get groceries and supplies there. Overall, the Bear's Den is a real gem, and we're already planning our next trip back!”

“Beautiful secluded cabin!! Pictures don't do justice and until you have seen it in person you won't know the beauty within!! Love the rustic atmosphere and the touch of decor matches perfectly. Everything was clean and the best thing was the screened in porch. Our pup loved sitting out with us and didn't have to worry about any bugs getting to us. Peaceful and very relaxing location. Not too far to drive into town and lots of trails to hike on within the area. Owner had everything set up and also has notebook with trails and information about the area. Very prompt to answer any questions and very polite. We will definitely be back next year and hope to be able to stay 2 weeks. Thank you for allowing us to use your cabin and it felt just like home!! We will always recommend your cabin to family and friends!! ”

“The Bear's Den rates high (4.5 stars) on our list of the dozen cabins, camps, and cottages we've stayed in for vacations in the Adirondacks and rural Maine. Sitting on the wonderful screened-in porch, we felt as if we were on our own private island surrounded not with the sound of surf but with the similar sound of the trees rustled with the breezes. The kitchen is new and modern: gas range, new refrigerator, stainless steel sink, spacious feeling with light, natural wood and a high ceiling, good lighting; the bathroom is new with an excellent, clean walk-in shower. The well water is better than our water at home. All of these are superior to most refurbished camps crowded close together directly on the water. The website described 2 full beds and a twin loft, but we found one 'full' is actually a queen (with a twin up a ladder above it); the queen foam mattress was comfy but tended to sag slightly toward the center; we found a way to adapt to it, but were relieved to get home to our own bed. The bedrooms are nicely finished but small, which is totally fine for a vacation stay. The bear theme kitsch throughout all rooms was a bit overdone, though we became fond of the bear politely holding up the toilet paper in front of the toilet! The living room with flatscreen TV over pellet stove in old stone fireplace feels a little more campy than the rest of the cottage. We were happy to trade the beauty and immediate access of lakeshore for the privacy and nearby access (maybe an 8-10 minute walk along the road) to our own dock with canoe, rowboat, and 2 kayaks all available for only our use. The water along the dock is very shallow and a little weedy, so it's not a very good place for swimming, but with the boats, it's possible to find better swimming places, though not a large sandy beach. We never did find, from Dave's directions, the town beach at the other end of the lake. Loon Lake is in two 1-mile sections connected by a narrow neck you might not spot until you get close. The road by Bear's Den is lightly traveled by day, and at night we didn't hear any road noise. Crusher Mt is a short, steep hike that starts a 10 minute road walk from the cabin, and it has an alternative descent which is not as steep; there is a nice Lookout Rock view over the lake on the way up. The Loon Lake Mt trailhead is 2.2 miles from the cabin, and that offers an easy start becoming steeper toward the top. There are two trails up Debar Mt, further away, with a very steep climb in the final 8/10 mile. The dirt road by our dock continues for a 2.5 mile walk to a footbridge at Mud Lake and more trails and roads branching off from there. Overall, we had a delightful week.”

“Thank you for writing very nice review! We are happy you have an delightful stay at the Bear's Den! Thank you for pointing out the discrepancy about the queen bed being listed as a full bed on the site. I will go ahead and make that change! We may look at getting a new mattress and will update this review response when we do. Glad you made full use of the lake, boats and got some hiking in too! We hope you will return sometime soon. Thanks again!”

“We've rented a few cabins in the Adirondacks over the years and this is by far one of the best experiences! The Bears Den was not only affordably priced, it was spacious, peaceful and private too. The cabin was clean, cozy and well equipped with working appliances. Wifi was a plus, along with washer & dryer and screen room. Loon Lake is lovely and my husband enjoyed having the opportunity to explore it in the canoe provided. (Kayaks and row boat available too) Having a place that welcomes our 2 dogs is a must, and there was even a bowl of fresh spring water waiting for them the day we arrived, along with a gift of Adirondack maple syrup for us (thank you Matt!) We're really happy we chose The Bears Den this year & will absolutely be back!”

“We rented the Bear's Den for our recent Honeymoon. It featured everything we could have possibly needed. The cabin itself was very well maintained and by far the cleanest place I've ever rented. The price was very reasonable as well. I would highly recommend the Bear's Den to anyone looking for a nice, private cabin with all the amenities. Especially nice were the kayaks, row boat and canoe, that were available for our use in nearby Loon Lake. We had a great time and even caught some fish. ”

“We stayed 7/28 - 8/04 and had a terrific time. The cabin was clean and of a nice size. We enjoyed the peace and quiet and the nice open lawn provided an area for the dogs to exercise as well as a special place for us to sit and relax. The screened porch was a god-send during the hot muggy weather. We had a terrific time and recommend the Bear's Den without reservations. (NO PUN INTENDED) Nikki & Jack”

“We had a wonderful stay at the cottage. It is very comfortably furnished and had the best-equipped kitchen I have ever encountered in a rental. We practically lived on the screened-in porch. I was initially concerned about not being right on the lake, but the walk was so short, it did not inhibit us from going to and fro a number of times each day. We loved having the kayaks and canoe. The caretaker was incredibly responsive to our minor concerns. We knew the area well, so had no trouble finding the freshest eggs and locally grown fruits and vegetables. Our only complaint was that, though there are many lights, almost none were good for reading. Adding a standing lamp near one of the armchairs and a brighter light on the end table between to 2 couches would be a big improvement. We are very likely to return and encourage others to stay in this place.”

“Fabulous place. The cabin is big, and beautifully appointed. We love to cook so we appreciated the lovely stove. It is very quiet and private. The lake is 2 minutes away, and the kayaks, canoe, and row boat were very much appreciated. Great fishing! The owner is very VERY helpful and prompt. We were here during a beastly hot stretch, and survived by closing up the cabin at 8 AM and opening it up at 8 PM. The grill is wonderful too, and the internet works well. Thank you so much. Great time.”

Thanks again!”

“Beautiful location and very private. We stayed during peak fall foliage and were not disappointed. The cabin is homey with a well equipped kitchen and numerous amenities. Owner was very accommodating as we experienced last minute car repair needs. Only downside, to us, was that our bed was too soft, but that is always different for each person. Overall a great value for very fair pricing!! ”

“The Bear Den in Loon Lake is a charming well maintained cabin with access to a gorgeous lake complete with loons and kayaks and a canoe. While staying there was an issue with the toilet that was dealt with quckly and with respect for our Privacy and time there. I enjoyed my stay and the walks and hikes in the area a lot. ”

“We had the nicest time at the Bear's Den! We were there over Father's Day weekend and Erick says it was one of his best Father's Days ever. The cabin was simple and cozy and had everything we needed to be comfortable. When the listing says "rustic", it means it, but that was exactly what we were looking for. There was a walk to the lake, but the canoe and kayaks were there already, so there was no need to transport them, just the paddles and life jackets which were stored at the cabin. Since Loon Lake has no public boat ramp, there isn't a lot of motorized boat traffic which was very nice. There were plenty of places to walk from the doorstep and Loon Lake Mountain is a very short drive away. The owner was installing a washing machine as we were leaving, so that will add another convenience. We enjoyed our stay very much and hope to return. ”
Owner's Response
“Thank you for the wonderful review! We are so glad you had an excellent vacation at the Bears Den. Loon Lake is very special with the crystal clear water and little boat traffic (we wish there was even less.) I know it's only a short walk to the lake but you can drive down if that is easier with life jackets, fishing gear and cooler. Sorry the washing machine was not installed for your stay. We are always making improvements to make it as comfortable as possible. We hope you will keep us in mind for future ADK getaways. Thanks again!”

“We recently returned from a wonderful week in the Bear's Den. The cabin was just what we wanted: secluded, comfortable, well-stocked with cookware and utensils so we didn't have to haul it all. We are tent campers, so this was a big step up in ease. The lake is not in view from the cabin - but neither are any other cabins. We enjoyed sitting in the yard, listening to the breeze rustling through the treetops that surrounded us. We walked and bicycled to our Loon Lake access, where we enjoyed swimming, kayaking, canoeing, and fishing every day. We did the short hike (walked from the cabin) to sit on a rock an overlook Loon Lake. It is a jaunt to town, Saranac. We did a lot of relaxing near the cabin and at the lake, but also visited Saranac and Lake Placid. Our most exciting day was whitewater rafting, beginning in Indian Lake. I would definitely stay at Bear's Den again. If you like fancy, skip it. If you like rustic, comfortable, with all amenities, it may be for you. ”
