Saranac Lake Chain Region Vacation Rentals — LISTING ID: VR9167
Search no further, you've found an excellent home for your Adirondack vacation! The home is great for family reunions and other group functions, up to 10 people. There are 5 bedrooms, 4 queen beds each has private full bath and one bedroom with a full size bed. You will not find this in any comparable rental, instead you will find rooms with multiple beds jammed into rooms, sharing one or two bathrooms. There is sleeping space for 10. Your family will be very comfortable here, there are so many …places in and around the house to relax. From the large dock to the sun room and large living room which are both just feet away from the lake. The home is 3200 square feet and sits on 1.25 acres with 475 feet of lake front. It is very secluded from other camps around the lake so if you are looking for privacy, this is the place! The large kitchen is fully stocked and even has 2 stoves! You will also find all of the conveniences of your home kitchen with a large stainless fridge, dishwasher, microwave and seating so you can entertain friends and family while making your feasts. The open floor plan (kitchen, dining room, living room and sun room) also allows for entertaining and makes relaxing in any room a breeze.
There is so much that can be done right outside the doors! Fishing is excellent, you will catch many small mouth bass, northern pike, perch (good eatin') and a few elusive Large-mouth bass. You can walk or drive a few miles to the north branch of the Saranac River for trout fishing. There are many thousands of miles of hiking and biking trails right outside the door and we are in a great location for day hikes to some of the ADK high peaks and even some not so high peaks. Crusher Mountain is at the end of Mensink Rd (less than a mile), it is a very short hike to the top and there is a great view. If you are a little more adventurous then you can hike Loon Lake Mountains and see the fire tower which is about a 6 mile round trip.
There are 2 canoes, a tandem kayak, single kayak, paddle boat and a row boat for exploring the beautiful and private lake (no public access.) We cannot allow outside motor boats, no exceptions. (you can bring your own personal watercraft like canoes and kayaks) We have patio furniture and ADK chairs in the yard for BBQ's and to just sit around with friends and family. Take a day trip to Saranac Lake, Lake Placid, Tupper Lake (the Wild Center) or even Montreal. There are some great restaurants in town, lots of cool shops and many tourist attractions. Maybe take a trip back in time and ride the rails on the ADK Railroad. The Wild Center is a nature museum which is fun for the whole family and is located about 35 minutes away. Even closer is the Paul Smith's Visitors Interpretive Center which is a great place to see wildlife in nature and learn about the local ecology. We have a TV room with a DVD player and basic satellite reception. There are a couple board games and I'm told the house is great for Hide and Seek. I could write for days about all of the things you can do while staying here, but instead I will leave a little to your imagination. One thing that is for certain, you will enjoy your stay! We look forward to hearing from you...

“It is with heavy heart that I write this review, for I'm afraid if I am truthful and tell everyone how wonderful this place is, there may never be another vacancy for us at Camp Loony! This exceptional place really busts the "too good to be true" myth! It has everything we (a group of two families) were looking for and a whole lot more. The pictures show the huge kitchen, cozy sun porch, game room, several bedrooms and bathrooms, outside seating area, and dock. What the pictures can't accurately express is the enjoyment of the sounds of the loons on the lake, memories made around a campfire, coffee on the dock in the morning, and swimming in the lake with family. Town is not too far away and has Churches, grocery stores, and restaurants. Also, about halfway to town is "Hex and Hops", a very enjoyable brewpub! Also, for hiking folks, this is located in the "High Peaks" area, close to some great trails and vistas. So if you're looking for an amazing Adirondak experience at a clean quiet place on a beautiful lake, this (unfortunately for us) is the place for you!”

“We always love coming to Camp Loony. It is level easy walk from house to lake and large dock and deck by the lake that we spend most of our time at. We love the old dirt roads in the area to explore each year and Lake Placid and Saranac not too far away for day trip. Owner very responsive and very dog friendly. Lots of room inside to host large families and a great game room also. Kitchen has 2 stoves and everything you need to cook. Coming back again next year 2024 :)”

“Such a lovely spot on the lake. Loons sang to us , and the view was great. A very peaceful spot. The owner was quick to respond, and renting Camp Looney was easy. We arrived and were greeted by the caretaker, she gave us a wonderful tour, and the place was tidy and comfortable . I will definitely be back. What a wonderful place to rest , restore, and enjoy all the beauty of the lake. ”

“This was our second year at Camp Loony and we loved it even more. Dog friendly and a lovely spot on the lake with a very large deck and dock at the late to accommodate our family. The sun was on the dock/deck for most of the day and great fishing right from the deck also. New fire pit at the deck by the lake was a beautiful addition and used almost everynight we were there in addition to the firepit by the house. My sister-in-law actually caught a 20 inch bass from the deck (let her go though :)). The house is huge and the kitchen has everything you need for cooking - lots of space for multiple family members to help cook. Great gas grill off the kitchen also. Regular size washer and dryer makes it convenient and we actually used the rec room more this year (which is also huge) due to a couple of rainy days. The area is fantastic for not only kayaking but also for 4x4 and jeep rides - lots of trails - saw moose tracks in a couple of places and lots of beautiful remote scenery off the trail- you can go for miles. You will not be disappointed with Camp Loony and our two dogs loved it too. Our Golden paced at the shallow beach area for hours watching the small fix :) Highly recommend!”

“We stayed at Camp Loony the last week of May which is usually still a bit cold in the Adirondacks and is also black fly season but neither bothered us a bit because we were just blown away by the beauty of the location of this property. I have been vacationing in the Adirondacks for quite a few years and have rented different houses each time. This house is by far the best. The house is right on the water with views from the living room and bedrooms that are to die for. The property is very well maintained, it has a back deck with chairs and a new grill, a sturdy dock, canoes and a kayak,a huge driveway and of course all of the beauty of Loon Lake. The house is downright gorgeous. The living room is stunning with a row of windows overlooking the lake and the bedrooms with the private baths are perfect. It has a modern kitchen with the convenience of two stoves and there is also a huge game room. We had a lot of fun playing ping pong one rainy day. One of my favorite things to do here was to sit on the deck in the morning and listen to the Loons calling each other on the Lake. We had a relaxing, quiet vacation which is exactly what we wanted. We hope to come back soon and often! ”

“Wow! I cannot thank you enough for the very nice review! We love it there too and sitting on the dock in the morning listening to the loons and just the quiet is the best. So happy you had a great time and that you hope to return soon and often! We'd love to have you back. Thanks! Dave”

“It was a wonderful experience staying at Camp Loony.I am speaking for 9 people who were with me.. From the first day to the last the last we all had the same reaction. A fantastic house, the game room got used regularly the dock was jumped off day and night, and the fishing was awesome. The only issue we had was the little red squirrel that stole,a tennis ball,(he was seen taking it) stole a wiffle ball, and finally we caught him trying to push the bat to the woods. Not sure what league he plays for but it was funny. Great place highly recommend for individuals and families alike. Your never in anyones way you have plenty of room to relax and do nothing. And if you like to cook there are two stoves in the kitchen. Would definitely return another time. We also saw two moose our first day a couple miles from the house crossing the road. You have to go there to experience all the amenities available to you.”
Owner's Response
“Wow, thanks very much for the awesome review! We are so happy you had a wonderful vacation! It's so amazing that you got to see 2 Moose and so close to camp. Such majestic animals! Funny about the wiffle ball playing squirrel. Glad the game room and dock got lots of usage and that there was lots of relaxing done at Camp Loony! We hope to see you again one of these years!”

“We just returned from a multi family vacation at Camp Loony. My family along with friends of ours have been vacationing in the Adirondacks for many years. We've never stayed at the same cabin/cottage twice. This is about to change. We can't recommend this property enough. The pictures do not do this place justice. It was very clean when we arrived, the owner is very responsive, and the location can not be beat. It is private with a generous lakefront. Our 2 families had a very enjoyable time and we were extra happy to be able to bring our dogs. We will be sure to visit again as soon as we can.”

“Thank you very much for writing such a nice review! We are glad you had a wonderful vacation at Camp Loony! You're right the pictures don't do it justice but I can't seem to capture how amazing the place is in pictures or words. Awesome reviews like yours do help convey that though. We hope you do return in 2019 and beyond. Thanks again!”

“My family has just returned from 2 weeks at Camp Looney and we all had an amazing time! The house is perfect for a large group. Plenty of room for everyone including our two dogs. 3 bedrooms have bathrooms ensuite. A fourth bedroom has a bathroom right outside its door. A fifth bedroom is also available. Also there is a 1/2 bath, located in the game room. The floor plan is opened. The kitchen is well stocked with pots, pans and utensils. We also liked that there are several outdoor areas perfect for gatherings. The campfire area with plenty of seating; an outdoor dining table; the dock area also with plenty of seating and the front of the house with two chairs if anyone wants a private moment. The home comes with 3 canoes, a rowboat, and a tandem kayak with life vests and paddles included for all boats. There were even a couple of fishing poles if you left yours at home. Loon lake is pristine with good fishing and a lot of shore line covered by pine forest for exploration. There is great hiking right outside your front door as well as spectacular mountain hikes very close by. The charming town of Lake Saranac is 25 minutes away and has fabulous restaurants including a French one named The Left Bank, which we particularly enjoyed. I highly recommend this lovely, secluded lake house. We have already put down our deposit for next year, same time. The one recommendation we can make to the owner is there should be more towels available. ”
Owner's Response
“Thank you for the very nice review! We are happy you had a great vacation and that you will return in 2019! We also love how spacious the home is which allows for even big groups to be all together and have privacy. We do suggest bringing beach towels but will be making a change to our listing to read, 10 towels are provided but we can leave more if you promise to wash them before check out. As it is, we do not have time to wash more than that. In your case, you gave us a great jump start on the laundry which was extremely helpful and appreciated! See you next year.”

“My family of 7 stayed at Camp Loony for a week. We spent the week taking day trips to Lake Placid and other surrounding towns, kayaking and canoeing, relaxing on the dock and porch, hiking down the road, and watched movies and played in the game room the only day it rained. We made smores at the campfire and grilled most Of our dinners. We saw lots of wildlife, including loons, several turtles and a 14 member family of geese that made a temporary home on our cove the day before we left. The kitchen and bedrooms more than accommodated our needs. We felt very comfortable and at home at Camp Loony and would recommend it to anyone! We were greeted by lots of mosquitos, so pack your bug spray. We hope to visit again!”
Owner's Response
“Thank you so much for taking the time to write a really nice review! It's much appreciated! We are happy you had a great time at Camp Loony. Sorry about the mosquitos but at least the black flies were not bad. There is a wide variety of bug spray available in the cupboard, from natural to heavy duty deet options. Glad you enjoyed the game room and we're comfortable in the house. We hope you will return. Thanks again!”

“We have just returned from a week at Camp Loony and truly did not want to leave. The house is secluded and peaceful and I remarked as soon as we arrived the the pictures dont do it justice. The rooms were comfortable and it was so luxurious to have most rooms with their own bathroom. It made our extended family staying with us feel comfortable and private. The kids were able to play in the snow and dig out a big fort in the snow. We walked out in the ice of the lake that was covered with about a foot of snow when we first arrived. It was a winter wonderland experience that we wont soon forget. We watched snowmobilers zipping across the lake, which looks like so much fun. We ventured out to ski and visit Lake Placid but were happy to return each night to the warmth and comfort of this beautiful property. Thanks Camp Loony! ”

“Camp Looney is FANTASTIC. We have been doing a joint family vacation in the Adirondacks on various lakes for years, always doing a different rental every summer but no more! Camp Looney is our new summer home away from home. Dave is conscientious, reliable and easy to communicate with. The house is beautiful, well stocked, spacious, clean and could NOT be in a better location to enjoy the best the Adirondacks have to offer while giving you a very quiet private space to relax. The calling of the loons on the lake at sunset was a unique and treasured experience. Two thumbs up for Camp Looney. See you next summer! ”

“We had a great time in Camp Loony all the beds were comfortable, plenty of space for everyone. The views from the house of the lake can't be beat. We spent 2 weeks here and didn't want to leave. The kitchen is well supplied for cooking plenty of meals. The tandem kayak was fun for our kayakers in the group would recommend renting here.”

“This "cabin" is so spacious, and easily accommodated our family of 9. We have previously stayed at the south end of Loon Lake. The north end was much quieter, with little motor noise. The loons sang daily - such wonderful music to sooth and relax us. The kitchen is fabulous and because we love to cook and bake, we found this particularly wonderful. We enjoyed the large dining table and comfortable furniture. There is another table on the screened porch for puzzles and games. The kitchen counter also has 6 stools for a gathering / snacking location. The dock with a 4 step ladder was beautiful for swimming. There is a narrow strip of shallow, sandy beach for young children to play. It does drop off quickly beyond a 4-5 foot stretch. The lake water was clean and clear. My favorite past-time was to sit on the dock and read. My grandchildren swam and played - I could comfortably watch them from any of the many beach chairs. Shade could always be found, as the sun moved across the sky. We loved Camp Loony and recommend it highly. Our host, Dave, was always available by phone. He even made follow-up calls to check on us during the week to check back on our questions.”
Owner's Response
“Thank you so much for the awesome review! It was nice to meet you and your family. We are glad you had a great vacation at Camp Loony! I do wish there was a little more shallow area for small children to play in but the drop off makes the swimming really great. I really love to dive off the end of the dock. Thanks again for the great review. We hope you will return to Camp Loony in future years.”

“My family and I just spent the loveliest one week vacation at Camp Loony. When we weren't out on the beautiful, pristine lake in the rowboat or canoe, we were in the camp cooking up delicious meals in that fantastic kitchen. A few of those meals were locally caught bass and trout! The house is spacious, with room enough for everyone to be together or alone - as they wished. Evenings were spent on the dock or by the outdoor fire pit, while listening to the haunting songs of the loons on the water. When the nights got chilly, we lit the wood stove. The bedrooms are lovely (three have en-suite bathrooms), with comfy beds and spacious walk-in closets. The game room above the garage (perfect spot for noisy kids or adults) was an added bonus. My first experience playing air hockey, and the ping pong table got lots of use. I can't recommend this place enough... it's private & quiet, with Saranac Lake an easy 30 min. drive away for day trips, shopping, or dining. I miss seeing those shimmering reflections from the lake on the bedroom wall when I wake up in the morning! ”

“We arrived the last weekend in July, and were greeted in person and shown around the property. The house is well appointed with classic adirondack style. A large home ( a little big for our party as some of the relatives cancelled at the last moment)with plenty of spaces to not only congregate, but slip away if needed. Nicely appointed kitchen as well as some in stock necessities. Weather cooperated for us and we utilized the boats and wonderful fire pit. The loons came by, and the lake is serene and peaceful. We never turned on the TV. Awesome place to relax and distress. Will come again if our traveling companions agree!”

“We spent 2 delightful weeks at Camp Loony this year. All rooms were exceptionally clean when we arrived, beds were comfortable, kitchen was amazingly well supplied with all necessary supplies for preparing meals. Great internet reception as well as TV reception. Our young visitors loved the rec room. Gradual beach area into the lake is a good spot for little kids to get in the water and also for launching the canoes. Our 4yo nephew was thrilled to catch his first fish (a small mouth bass) off the dock. And the fire pit made for great evening entertainment. We love the opportunity to star gaze on the dock in the evening, and their reflection in the lake. The loons were there with their eerie calls, and the mama merganser duck swam by before we left with her new brood of ducklings. We are already looking forward to another visit to Camp Loony next year.”

“My family had a wonderful weeks stay at Camp Loony. The house was beautiful inside and out. We loved our daily ping pong matches followed by air hockey and then a great card night for everyone at the spacious dining room table. All of us having a bedroom and our own full size bathroom was a plus for everyone. At night the campfires while watching the shooting stars was a great way to wind down the day. There was everything we needed in the beautiful kitchen for preparing our snacks and meals. We highly recommend Camp Loony for a wonderful vacation place.”

“Loved our week at Camp Loony because it rates a 10 for outdoor activities and indoor accommodations. We enjoyed the beautiful views, fabulous dock, nice fire pit area and a gorgeous well appointed "cabin" (is really too nice to call a cabin) on a private and accessible lakefront. The cabin was spacious enough for the 10 of us, even when indoors on a rainy day (rec room was well used that day!). We enjoyed fishing, kayaking, hiking, a trip to The Wild Center, incredible star gazing, and more, often to the call of the loons. Spacious rooms and comfy beds awaited us at the end of long fun days. Camp Loony exceeded our expectations in every way. Thank you for sharing your beautiful ADK paradise with us!”
