Why our property is special: The Reed Camp is one of a handful of structures built on site by the Rich Lumber Company and originally used as an office in the hamlet circa 1900. The property has been beautifully restored, offering modern amenities while incorporating period pieces in the design. You can enjoy antique furnishings but relax in the spacious garden tub after a long day of hiking!

“This was our second trip to this lovely home on the river. It has everything you need to be comfortable inside and a great waterfront area outside. It is easy to launch the provided kayaks or canoe right from the property. We fished and swam right from the lawn. Easy access to Cranberry lake and you can dock your boat right out front. We will definitely be back - Thanks Rene!”

“This was the third year my family has stayed at the Reed Camp and every year has been a wonderful experience. The house itself is spacious, well maintained and nicely updated. The front porch and side deck both have outstanding views of the river and we all have spent hours there just sitting, talking and reading. Access to swimming in the river is right there and the water is about 5'-6' ft deep at the max at this point. Perfect for swimming and relaxing. The owner is very attentive and always has left us a personal note to welcome us . Wanakena overall is quiet, peaceful but with easy access to hiking, biking, paddling, fishing and any other outdoor activity you need. This rental is perfect for keeping out of the high tourist/high traffic areas but still having them within easy driving distance. ”

“My family and I had a relaxing and peaceful stay at Reed Camp. It was just what we were looking for - a getaway in a quiet town. The location was great - we enjoyed being right on the water to do some fishing and rowing, as well as hiking the local trails. The house was clean and roomy. We appreciated having the space since it rained the first few days we were there. The updated kitchen and bathroom were very nice, as well as the screened in porch and the big comfy adirondack chairs around the fire pit. This was our first family vacation in the Adirondacks and we made many wonderful memories here. ”

“This cottage on the river is lovely!! It is spacious, clean, updated, and well-stocked. We are a family of three but could've comfortably had 5+ people here. Bathrooms are in great shape, as is the kitchen. Bedrooms and living space are big. Deck and large screened in porch are wonderful areas as well. Boats and river access are convenient and fire pit with chairs is fun. Great view - right on the river. The neighbors were quiet but friendly. The small town of Wanakena is delightful with quiet streets to walk or bike, a town square with concert and bake sale, small shop, art show, basketball court, small beach with dock. Folks were so warm and welcoming. We found good daily hikes near by. The Pine Cone Grill is close and worth the trip for a yummy dinner. The Wild Center at Tupper Lake is worth the drive too - good family fun! Great location! (We recommend the Star Lake grocery store and coffee shop. Produce from the grocery store in Star Lake was much better than that from the grocery store in Tupper Lake.) Kim was responsive, friendly, and very helpful. We had a great stay and hope to return. Thank you so much for a delightful vacation getaway spot. We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Reed Camp in Wanakena. :) ”

“My family and I had the pleasure of staying at the Reed Camp this year and thought it was a very nice house. My wife made the comment "the pictures did not do it justice". We all enjoyed kayaking in the river and the many gorgeous hiking trails in the area. We made the trip (about and hour and 20 min) to Lake Placid one day and went up Whiteface Mountain which is a must! The property is nestled along the river which we fished in every evening and caught yellow perch and a few bass. We hope to return to the area when the walking bridge is rebuilt to see how the town is supposed to look. The property manager was a pleasure to deal and was very helpful upon our arrival. Thanks for a pleasant vacation!”
